Roger. In this case, it seems to be something ported-over from the old 10mm Delta Elites. Not a necessity, but I can see why Colt would want to hedge their bets somewhat.

    Dual recoil springs:
Nothing technical, but for those wondering....
I didn't notice any reduction in recoil using full power duty rounds. The slide was easy to manipulate. Sorry for the crappy photos, tried to catch the weapon in full recoil.

I'd say as others stated, recoil spring life and frame preservation.

Slide battering mitigation; historically MEU-SOC 45s and M45 slides were replaced every 2 or so deployment cycles because of wear

The SL3 for both previously mentioned pistols include Wilson shock buffers to help mitigate that problem in previous guns of the type

My nephew has expressed an interest in this pistol. Any new data, reviews, comments, etc.?

I've seen very little, but was finally able to pick up a Colt Rail Gun (non-MEU) recently, and I'm not really sure why I would want to ante-up for one over the other, particularly given the significant cost difference. The original is a very nice piece in its own right.

I wonder how difficult it would be to put that spring system into another 1911….

Don't know how I missed this thread? I got my M45 July 3rd this year. I'm no expert but I'll share my thoughts so far It's very accurate, I could hit a 32oz Powerade bottle @ 40 yards, standing. None of the guns I own are safe queens so I hope I'm not sorry I didn't just store it (for some kind of retirement investment). I have only one other 1911, a S&W 1911SC , e series commander. The trigger on the Smith is lighter but the Colts' not bad. I don't know how guys EDC a full size, all steal 1911 ? loaded they weigh a TON.

    It's all about commitment.

Well, that, and some pretty careful carry rig consideration.
