As much as I/We shoot the AR... I've never broken or seen one break. Not even in classes.

Just like you I've seen several carbine systems but haven't yet on mid lengths. I have about 12k through one of my DD middies and 9k through my BCM middy. Mostly 5.56 lake city too.

I want to make sure I read correctly. You only want to know about Mids. Not carbines and not rifles, correct?

    Correct.
Might not make a bad alternate poll though.

Just wanted to make sure because I have seen mentions of HBARs and others but no middies yet other than Robb.

We have solid data going back to the mid 1960s about the difference in longevity between carbine and rifle bolts. It woul be hard for me to imagine mid length barrels not splitting that difference.

I've been oresent for the breaking of bolts but I trade guns around too much to have that many rounds through one bolt.

I have not seen mid-lengths break a bolt yet, but none of the mid-length AR15's here have more than 10-12K though them at the moment. You should talk to Pat Rogers, as he has some high round count mid-lengths.

Someone did cite that Filth 14 gun above. I'm kind of suprised to see that bolt fail so early.

It was fired around 1,300 rounds every three days or something. I will find the link to get exacts. I am sure its harsh firing schedule is the reason for earlier failure.

"Every round that has gone down that barrel has been fired at class, with an average of approximately 1,300 rounds every three days......

At Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, in May 2009, it had several failures to extract, and the extractor spring was replaced at 13,010 rounds. This is far beyond the normal extractor spring life under these conditions.

At Wamego, Kansas, in June 2009, two bolt lugs broke at 16,400 rounds. We replaced the BCG. Considering the firing schedule, this is within normal parameters."

    Sorry if I was unclear.
We know the theories, assumptions, and other people's published accounts.
What I am looking for is individual, personal, first-hand reports of bolts breaking in midlength gas 5.56 Stoner operating system based carbines.
