Vltor MUR for a 9mm AR?

The ammo crunch and the fact that I reload 9mm and always have thousands of rounds reloaded and ready to go has got me to thinking about a 9mm AR. Recently I finally knuckled up and ordered a dedicated DDLES 9mm lower (colt magazine pattern). Now I'm searching for the rest of the parts. My next move is an upper and I am interested in the Vltor MUR (ejection port only).

Does anyone have experience running a MUR on a 9mm AR? Is the brass deflector sufficient? Are there any issues running different magazines? I've heard that non colt mags (metalform,c-products, etc) can be too wide for the MUR. Is that so?

Vltor MUR for a 9mm AR?

    I built a 9mm years ago on a VIS,
The brass does not hit the deflector, no big deal, haven't cared enough to put a 9 block on it.
I did have to file the inside of the receiver to allow mags to fit.

Good luck with anything but metal form mags

Thanks for the input. What angle does the brass come out at? 5 o'clock?

I think if you look at the DDLES website and their custom uppers, they build on MUR uppers.

I was gonna order one in Dec, anticipating my Form 1 return in Jan-Feb, but they are hammered and I had a shop build me up a YHM upper w/ CMMG bolt. Works great as well, I've only shot twice with it, 270 RDS but absolutely flawless.

    And FUN as hell suppressed.

If you're considering the MUR, I'm guessing you got the Vltor matching option on your DDLES?

If so, look at the HERA HCU, I think their lines match the Vltor since HERA's upper w/forward assist looks exactly like the MUR.

    I going that route...

Yes, I ordered the Vltor matching lower. I've never heard of the HCU, but the price I just looked up for it is outrageous!

Yeah, I think somewhere along the way I accepted the fact that there's nothing cheap about this hobby, even if you buy cheap. A lot of people pride themselves of what a good deal they got on something, but the total price they spent on their hobby as a collective is one of the 'unmentionables'.

But I think you're slowly coming to terms with it too...otherwise what did you get the vltor matching option for?

It's like my wife...in the end it doesn't matter how much I spend on her, cause she's still fun to play with and look at.

That's a great analogy. And yes, I don't mind spending money good stuff. In fact, I hate spending money on cheap crap. If you looked in my gun safe that much would be obvious!

I see Vltor as being a top notch product and priced accordingly. I've never heard of HERA and would take some convincing that it is worth the extra $$$.

I came to the same realization. I had a SBR lower (registered in 9mm) and decided that I really wanted a .300blk instead. All this crap happened, could not find 300 barrel, had a boat load of 9mm handloaded and went to town. I pick up my barrel on Wednesday.
