I couldn't agree more. In fact, maybe I'm imagining it, but I think we're seeing a decline in the level of participation of some of our SME's and highly knowledgeable posters. The signal-to noise-ratio here is getting murkier.

It's great that moderators address this problem when they come across it, but also I believe forum members are going to have to vigilantly police this, to keep this site as the valuable resource it is. Thanks to the OP for bringing this up—you're not the only one.

For years and years I was a "it has to be a 7.62 nato" or it's not worth the effort fan (anyone else remember those 7.62 vrs 5.56 arguments? We sure talked that one to death!). Then I got into ars by way of a $600 High Standard hsa 6551. I found that I was wrong in my firearms philosophy and that I needed to learn more. After visiting several ar sites I found m4 carbine to be a no nonsense/info packed site. Now I have a LE6920 and use the High Standard to practice on. For example, I'm not a hands on person when it comes to tools, but last week I was able to change the triggerguard on the HS to a magpul. I now feel comfortable doing it on the Colt. I'm glad I found this place and thanks to the folks who keep it up and going.

I was at Walmart the other day and there was a young guy in his early 20's buying a DB AR for $847 plus tax. I tired my hardest to talk him in to buying the Colt 6920 they had in stock for about $150 more. He wouldn't listen to a word I had to say. All he could come up with was DB makes a sweet pocket pistol, so I know their AR's will be just as good as a Colt for less money. I even tired to tell him the difference between a Simi-auto bolt carrier and a full-auto bolt carrier. All he keep saying was, I'll never turn this AR into a full-auto so what does it matter. I just gave up on him because it was like talking to a wall.

Does it really matter if a guy like that does not spend his money wisely?

I was just trying to help the guy out like this forum has helped me out. I went through 3 AR's and many headaches before I got the advice I needed to make the right AR purchase decision.

I figure most people don't want the help and more than likely do not need it. A lot of people have to make their own mistakes, they can't learn from others.

Similar discussions on another forum (not TOS) if that helps at all.

An aside here: I think I know what you mean by "TOS", but did you know that on some forums it means "Terms of Service"?

    Yes. Yes I did.

Over here. TOS is typically used to refer to that site where one dares not speak its name.

I just feel we hold a high standard. This is a good thing. We know what works.
