You two hit certain points that i would like to hit on.

It is a fact that there are more people buying AR style rifles than ever before, ...........

So what we as M4C members need to do it politely and professionally show the new guys the way when they elect to ignore the search button. We all were Noobs at one time.
I'm one of those new guys and totally agree. Seems to me there are some here who are a bit harsh on the new guys. Nothing wrong with pointers and constructive comments. Somewhere seem to take great pride in there knowledge on all things M4 and can be harsh and down right rude. No need for that, to show a little respect for all member is a good thing

This is my 1st post so please be gentle, I'm a very sensitive guy.

    Regards, Paul

There's no problem with having a carbine like that to train with. A beater rifle is a beater rifle. I'm sure markm even has a bushy he beats on every once in a while. But they're not for serious use.

The intended purpose however was as a training/familiarization weapon for my mother. She started gaining an interest in the platform earlier this year. I wanted to get more in depth with assembly of ARs so a couple months back I decided to take the CMMG rifle I had and swap out the barrel for a DD and put a free float rail on it. Doing so on a junker rifle was a huge learning experience even if the end result is not on the same level as a Colt, BCM, DD, KAC, etc.

The left over parts went into the second assembly which is ideal for her to learn the platform. Then if she wants to fully invest in it, she can buy a high quality complete rifle will now be able to go that much further because of her experience.

    Nothing wrong with that.

But I think markm has an LWRC he beats at least once a day.

    Agreed.

You see a "I bought this POS AR and saved X dollars, how'd I do???" thread popping up on a weekly basis. People listen to the hype on TOS like forums and the gun store clerks rather than conduct research and form an intelligent decision. When told otherwise, butthurt occurs at the pounding sensation of the ass, 'flying fist' level. They don't want to admit they took the shitty advice (You're just paying for the roll mark, just as good as, gun of the special forces, the seals used a bushmaster to shoot bin laden, I shot 1000 rounds through it in the last 5 years and it's been just fine!) and will defended the purchase to the end, or get banned or they trade up. Being humble and admitting error is not a common trait in most men, especially after being duped.

    Agreed^^

I've pulled a few guys to the side after my LGS perverted their outlook on AR's, and am like " listen brother, go check out M4C, READ, and understand these guys actually use their rifles, then come back and buy that colt he's got in there."

I do have to ask, why buy a lower tier rather than a Colt these days? There isn't a huge leap in price going from a Bushmaster to a Colt. A few years ago there may have been a real large difference but now it's only $200-300.

There is still misinformation going around about Colts in general. "They use specific trigger parts, Colt is the lowest bidder, the civi Colts are the rejects from the military, you just pay for a name" etc. In fact I was at Scheels in SLC last week and the counter guy was preaching about how the RRA's took the DEA contract away from Colt and how all of the spec ops guys run RRA and then continued to bash Colt. I flat out told the guy to check his facts before stating such absolutes because he was wrong on most accounts. The problem with being a counter guy in a very large store such as Scheels, Cabela's, Sportsman's etc is that the misinformed take their words for the gospel truth.

Do they just make more on RRA, Bushmaster, etc. than they do on Colts? Checking around online and I really don't see much of a price difference between them. The 'paying for the name' doesn't seem to ring true when the 'name' only costs a little bit more.

This is what I do. I've been reading everything there is on this site the past few years. I love the no bs stance the mods have. I really dont post because I have nothing really ever to add to a conversation. But if anyone needs an witty movie reference i'm your guy.
