Thanks for the replies guys. I honestly didn't expect the STR to win by such a landslide, but since it did I can't really ignore all those recommendations... Just ordered a mil-spec STR in FDE from ECOP Police Supply through Ebay - one of the only places I found it in stock. The price was right and the shipping was free, so as long as it arrives as described I'll be happy. Thanks again for helping me with my decision.

    STR > the rest

As for buying from ebay I would search that company just to make sure you didn't buy a knockoff or airsoft version. Just as a heads up.

Yep, good advice and I did. They appear to be based out of Lancaster TX, they have their own website and seem legit. Feedback was 99.5% positive and they've been doing business since '05. A quick Google search brought up a thread over on arfcom where someone said they had purchased from them and all went well. Magpul product number and UPC checked out as well. I guess I'll know for sure when it arrives on Friday or Monday.

EDIT: Stock arrived today - no surprises. Real deal FDE Magpul STR mil-spec stock in the Magpul box with the installation instructions, a Magpul sticker, and one dummy round. ECOP Police Supply is GTG, and they've got some fairly decent deals through their Ebay store.

I picked up a STR a couple months ago from Joe Bob's. I was surprised to see it on sale for $81. I like it a lot more than the MOE it replaced. The cheek weld is much better and the weight balanced the rifle out pretty well.

I have one STR and like it, I also have CTRs and B5 SOPMODs and like them. The ACS never appealed to me.

Gear Scout's Buttstock Bashfest rated the STR pretty high. . .

The only other person I saw mention the correct answer: ACS-L

I have an ACS, CTR, ACS-L and tried the STR. Yes the regular ACS is a big heavy pig which, imho, is best for balancing out a very front heavy rifle. Ditch the battery storage though and you end up with about the perfect stock; the ACS-L. Of course if you don't need your stock to collapse over a Vltor A5 extension then I might just say the heck with the fancy ones and stick with the classic CTR. YMMV

EDIT: Just reread and saw you already picked up the STR. Enjoy
