Magazine or feed ramp problem? (photo)

Brnd new AR, Mako magazine and mossberg magazine won't cycle smoothly, the bolt catches halfway.

Troy battle mags work smoother, no cycling issues excepot when rifle is dry cycled completely verticle.

Is this normal for less than 150 rounds through the pipe?

You can see how bad it's scratching up the ammo. Green tip paint chips everywhere.

223 wylde match barrel, 1:7 YHM reciever from 556 tactical Adams Arms BCG piston kit.

I wouldn't use ANY of those mags.

The receiver feedramps don't look like they line up to the barrel extension's real well.

I've seen worse on Colts that ran fine.... Hard to tell in that pic, but if the barrel extension part of the feedramp is sticking up higher than the receiver part, that my cause problems.

Poor quality rifle components + poor quality magazines = feed issues...you're surprised.

Oh, but all AR's are the same, you're just paying more for a name and a rollmark, right?

I didn't say anything about cost...I mentioned quality, and YHM is not considered to be high in that regard. It's very obvious from your pics that your barrel extension does not match the receiver feed cuts worth a flip. Did you build the upper yourself? Whoever assembled that and let that matchup slide was either ignorant or a scam artist. If it's a factory gun, send it back and tell them to make it right.

556 tactical built it for me.

I really don't want to send back a rifle I paid so much for. That's just bullshit. I want it to work right.

What exactly do I tell them?

Should I try P mags before sending it back?

You're right, it is bullshit. Unfortunately, there are a lot of folks in the AR world building "custom" (cough...bullshit) AR's who either don't know or don't care enough to get it right.

You can try pmags or other quality USGI mags and see if the thing will run. If it runs, that's really what matters most. Still, that barrel/upper combo is not right, and if you paid $1500 for it, you should make them replace it or give you a refund.

Just to be clear (not insulting) do you understand what we're pointing out as wrong?
