Try an Accoupoint.

I agree. The TR24 is especially attractive at the current price point seen here on the equipment exchange. Very useful optic.

Thank you for the replies. I thought it may be the optic also. But the EOTech red dot looked the same way. Obviously wearing contacts would more than likely correct this. But Id like to have a set up thats ready to go at a moments notice without having to grab glasses or contacts. I may have to just break down and get Lasik.

I could live with some minor distortion but it was way beyond that. Ill try to look again and try focusing on the target more. I have read threads where people had an issue but was curious if anyone has had that severe of a distortion. May just have to get a EOTech or a Tijicon in the mean time.

Not saying another optic won't be better. But..what ranges are you anticipating needing to shoot at where you don't have time to get glasses? A 4 moa dot isn't crazy big for self defense under 50 yards. If your house includes rooms that are 50+ yards long then you can afford lasik..or private security. If you are concerned about moving to a threat outside the house surely you will have/should take the time to put on glasses.

I have astigmatism and wear (and have worn) glasses, hard contacts, soft contacts, and hybrids.

Hard contacts give me the sharpest correction and best astigmatic correction.

I get blobbed or "Multi-dot" images when I look at the projected dot in an Aimpoint or EOtech. Looking through the aperture in a back-up iron sight helps.

The absolute best, tidy round dot I see is through a Schmidt-Bender Short Dot -- possibly because the dot isn't projected but is part of the reticle itself You might also try an Accupoint or ACOG with circle, horseshoe, or chevron.

ill def have to look at the Accupoint. Im really considering just getting an ACOG also. And Im sure the distorted dot would be just fine in a close up situation without lenses. However I build my guns with a SHTF situation in mind however unlikley that may be. And in that situation glasses or contacts may not be viable.

Plus I just hate wearing glasses. Contacts may be a solution but to be honest I havent owned any in years. I may just get an Aimpoint and shoot with it and see. If it doesnt work Ill sell it and get something else maybe. Just a disappoinment I guess. I just upgraded to two nice rifles and had a certain setup in mind. But I really appreciate all of the replies and suggestions.

This may sound dumb, but was the dot intensity turned up to max? You may have seen some blooming combined with astigmatism that was making the dot look very odd.

I turned it up and down. It was slightly better with lower intensity. But still not usable.

i have astigmatism, as well as a replaced cornea, as well as 43 year old eyes.

i have the accupoint tr24 1-4 with green triangle reticle. best optic experience i've ever had.
been through dozens of scope demos and nothing else comes close (for me) in terms of reticle visibility and acquisition.
i chose the green for 2 reasons: that's "the most" visible color (safety vests, fire trucks, etc.) and i figured if the astigmatism thing has anything to do with red dots, i'd stay away from red altogether (pure conjecture on my part).

i actually rarely use it on anything but 1x. been all through my house at all times of day, with lights, without, transition from dark to light, light to dark, etc., etc. The fiber optic & tritium "auto-adjust" works - again for me. i don't ever feel like i need to adjust nor do i ever struggle with either target or reticle acquisition.
also, works GREAT with both eyes open - something i never could find in a different scope.

anyhow, i just picked up an aimpoint pro (literally received it today), so i'll post my subjective comparisons sometime in the near future.

How much precision were you expecting from a projected dot of light coming from an LED?

If you are doing precision shooting, buy a rifle scope.

If you are doing fast, close-in shooting, buy a RDS.

If you are doing both, combine systems and use a rifle scope with an offset RDS.

Im def going to look at the accupoint. Never seen one I dont think. And Im not talking about extreme precision. But with the way the Aimpoint looked I think it would hinder hitting a plate at 100 yards to an extent. But I could be wrong. My red dot experience is limited.

I used one for a while and I liked it. It was quite a bit more precise than the Aimpoint I had before. I decided I wanted some magnification so I ended up with 1-4X scope.
