FBI study of shootout in PA with local PD??

I remember a old case study done by the FBI crime lab concerning a shootout in PA with a local PD. Perp had a 1911, and ambushed a couple of cops. They go to guns and eventually put him down (he was shot something like 15 times with M4s and 40 cal Glock). The case study has an analysis and post mortem photos.

Trying to use it to prove a point in a course of instruction.

    Thanks.

"Why "zombies"? Because calling it 'training to stop a rioting, starving, panicking, desperate mob after a complete governmental financial collapse apocalypse' is just too wordy." or in light of current events: "training to stop a rioting, looting, molotov cocktail throwing, skinny jeans wearing, uneducated bunch of lemmings duped by, or working directly for, a marxist organization attempting to tear down America while hiding behind a race-based name"

That was a shootout in Hazelton, PA. I don't believe it was a 1911 I think it was a G21. This shootout caused a huge mess when the pathologist traced the bullet paths backwards and local departments were pulling their Speer Gold Dots off the street.
This shooting is a great example of how someone can take a huge amount of injury and continue to fight. After taking several hits and running out of ammo, the assailant was reloading from a box of ammo in his pocket. After being shot several times, he still fought officers as they handcuffed him.

Confused me as well. If the .223 are the rounds that killed him I'd say they worked quite well even though they over penetrated.

There are many different factors into this. No two people are the same as well as how a bullet is going to affect them or how one bullet is going to preform to the next. I agree the .40 looks bad here, it would have been nice if a officer had a 9mm to compare the two on the same asshole.

    Look at slide 4 again.

Inaccurate information from the coroner led to the belief that the .40 failed.

Then look at slide 17 where the results of the study list that the .40 actually worked as designed and the .223 TAP did NOT perform as expected. Later on slide 20, it is stated that the TAP worked as designed but failed to penetrate enough to stop the assailant.

On slide 19, it is stated that after all .223 ammo was fired, the suspect was shot with the .40.

Essentially, the .223 TAP failed to work and then the officers went to handguns to finish the fight.

FML. Now I'm more confused than before. I'll re-read the PDF.

It is not you, it is not clearly written.

They mention that 102 total shots were fired but do not define how many .40 and how many .223. They mention that the suspect was hit 17 times with 11 exits and 6 .40 bullets recovered in the body but do not mention specifically is any .223 were recovered.

Too much has to be inferred by the reader.
