    AX AICS Experience? Reviews?

I have always been a big fan of the AICS 1.5 stock. The hand position, cheek weld, etc. have fit my frame very well. The only thing I did not like about it was how heavy it was.

I am looking into the AX AICS for use with a Remington SPS Tac, similar to the old setup I had a few years ago with the AICS 1.5.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with this stock system they would like to share? Any good reviews I should read?

    Thanks!

Search or post a question on Sniper Central or Sniper's Hide. You are likely to get more user responses.

I used to frequent The Hide often, but I haven't been there in a number of years. I wanted to start here first as I find I prefer the opinion of the members here more than I do there, and IIRC their search function sucks.

Only with the complete AI AX. Try to see what features you want from it and if you don't need the rail, just go with the AICS and you could always add the pistol grip skins if that one feature you want and not the rail. I think they might be(AX) maybe 7-8 oz. lighter, not a lot. I have heard and seen pics of someone removing AICS skins, removing some aluminum in key area's and replaced the skins. The thread was on SH.

I ran one on two rifles before switching back to Manners and Mcmillan A5-ish stocks. The AXAICS is great off barricades, and is great for hanging stuff of your forend if you are into that. I didn't like the mag rattle and latching system, and you'll note that the AXAICS are shipped with an AX specific mag....with heavy recoiling guns, the original AICS mags can fall out.

If you run a Jewell or Timney, then you are going to have to relieve the inside of the chassis for it. If you run a Surgeon action, you will need to break the corners on the recoil lug recess on a mill, and relief cut the bolt handle recess...both of which I think is ridiculous for a $1200 chassis system.

They're great chassis, but I'd be looking at an XLR if you are into chassis and need a front rail.

I am a fairly well accomplished machinist, and have regular access to a Bridgeport which I can preform these modifications on. I was thinking of doing a "swiss cheese" lightening modification to reduce weight.

Do a search for that thread to give you ideas. Right now, it does look like the XLR may be the lightest option.
