    16.5" Rem 700 w/ threaded barrel

Has anyone got any advice or experience with this? Basically its a Rem700 AAC-SD with a 4" shorter barrel. As far as I'm aware its the same barrel, stock, etc.

I have an AAC 762SD that I'll be throwing on it so the shorter barrel will help. My questions are:

The twist on this, I think, is 1;11.25. Any issues with 168gr? 175?

This will reach out to 600 correct? And orkan I'm not shooting in hurricane force winds (pappabears words )

This is just going to be a range toy that I can shoot suppressed. Max range is 1000 if it can reach. I may build it up later on - it is not my first precision bolt gun.

Good starter rig? Should I get the AAC-SD? 4" of barrel won't bother me if it means I will be getting better results at 600.
Why do the loudest do the least?

16" is fine for 600yd fun.

Short barrels like heavy bullets. So 175SMK would be a good place to be.

Was this a a factory AAC-SD or did someone chop it?

Either way you should have no issues at the distances you listed, I'm more interested to see this rifle and to learn more about it.

He is talking about the factory threaded AAC, now also offered in 16.5"

These are the two rifles I'm debating on:

    Regular Rem700 AAC-SD 20" Barrel .308:

Basically an identical version of the above with a 16.5" barrel:

    http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/p...+308+TH+MZ+GRN

Price difference is negligible ($40) in the long run especially considering it will cost way more than $40 to get a barrel chopped and rethreaded from 20" to 16.5" anyway.

This is assuming Remington's factory threads are satisfactory for a suppressor (concentric).

I'm really leaning toward the 16.5" because the AAC 762SD adds about 8" to the length of the rifle but it is just a range toy - it shouldn't matter that much. I also have the location to shoot out to 1000 so that brings me back to a 20".

This is the same suppressor with a 20" barrel

You don't need any of that.

    You need this:

If you're planning on suppressing it I'd say go with the 16.5".

This is a Rem700 in 5.56 chopped and threaded at 16 inches. It's now basically the same OAL with the can as an original rifle with 24" barrel. The 1-9" twist barrel with 69gr. SMK's is still something to be feared at 600. I now lack a bit of velocity, but the gun is soo much easier to handle and I don't ever take it much past 300 anyway.

I took a friend out with the same set-up and we were banging away at an 8" circular steel plate at 750 with zero issues. We went to 1250 later and were 1 in 5 out of 20 rounds, but I attribute most of the misses to the bullet being transonic and shooting cross canyon with the wind doing all kinds of strange shit. Those shorties were never intended for that though. We were shooting 175 SMK handloads.
