Based on the inspections of some recent and current LE and commercial guns, DPMS remains a viable option only for casual, sport, hobby, and recreational, uses.

Im curious what you saw. I've never owned a DPMS but I've never been able to talk anyone out of getting one either. Specific failure points would make for a good argument.

Back before I knew better, and before I joined M4C. I bought a DPMS sportical in 5.56. Thinking that it was going to be just as good as the other "expensive" stuff. By "expensive" I believed that your mostly paying for the brand name not the quality. With some poor guidance from DGS staff in WA, I went through with it. After a few troublesome range trips, I replaced it with sig556 1st gen, also garbage. Several years, a few more mistakes, and after a lot of research I purchased a DDM4 V2 LW from RainierArms (great service BTW) and haven't looked back since. Now I steer all my friends away from DPMS and similar poorer quality brands. So they dont make the same mistakes I did.

Its not worth my time. The issues have been mentioned enough. I quit giving advice unless people pay for it. Its not worth the time and effort.

Sorry, didn't realize my question would push a button.

It didn't push anything. There have been multiple threads about DPMS and their issues. I'm to the point that if someone wants to buy and use a POS, I'm not going to deter them.

I think we all have bought guns that were less than perfect. Call it a learning curve. I have a DPMS that suits my hobby needs well but I have an Armalite that I trust for harder use. My next stop will most likely be a Colt. They are plentiful and the prices are competitive. Why not spend a little more and get a little more? kwg

Well said. Agreed, wholeheartedly. You can't polish a turd, nor can you pick it up from the clean end. People want to listen to bad advice and not do research, that's on them. Just wish they stop showing up a few times a month hailing their purchase and looking for praise and approval. When they find out what the really bought is an 'abortion, complete with coat hanger', the butthurt begins, then they leave to go to a more approving gun forum, and are never heard from again.

Same goes for all of the 'what carbine should I buy' threads. They should be closed immediately after being advised on where to look. They claim to have looked around and have done the research, but their questions are so uninformed on basic stuff, they clearly show they haven't done any research at all, nor anything basic like reading the stickies or using the search feature. Makes me want to stomp kittens every time I see one.
