As I mentioned in another thread, I personally don't see the need to make every single component as light as possible. I look at this new rail as a way to retain the standard profile barrel while reducing the weight in another area (compared to the Larue rails on my current primary rifle, for example). It may be that the two of them both prefer standard barrels, so they wanted to test how the new lighter rail system would work when combined with that preference.

OK, lets ship this rail guys. I placed my order today at BCM for a BFH BBL, BCM BCG, Gunfighter CH, Gas Block, Gas Tube and I allreday have an upper receiver and FH. Will be fun build.

Yeah, I've got everything together for my latest build except the rail and muzzle device. I'm thinking that the new BCM rail is what I'd like to put on it, but I'm not going to wait too long....

I've got an NSR on one of my rifles and I like it, but the barrel nut bugs me a little. Too tight one way and not tight enough the other... I love the fact that the NSR is so solidly connected once installed, just want a little more flexible attachment.

So, if the BCM rail has a solid barrel nut mount (Geissele like) and NO QD I'll be happy as a can be. But I hate built in QD sockets, they are dopey. For some reason manufacturers put the QD located at 9 and 3 o'clock at the FRONT of the rail and rear of the rail. But if you want to mount a light or something at 9 you cannot use the QD socket as it interferes. NO QD SOCKETS THEY ARE A WASTE OF SPACE, I'll put the dang QD socket WHERE I WANT IT.

OK, I got that out of my system. So when will a 13" BCM rail be ready, please? Thanks.

BTW - I do like the keymod it really is more space efficient, and the design allows for lighter weight and flexible designs to be created, witness the upcoming BCM rail. And the utility of having the ability to easily move attachments without accessing the back of the rail cannot be underestimated.

The Geissele rails have a small QD socket available that fits in the 45 degree slots: http://geissele.com/45quickdetachswivelmount.aspx Put the QD points where you want them on the rail.

Exactly what I was thinking. I have a light weight BCM barrel paired with a Centurion C4 on my main right now. My next build will definitely be BCM's rail and most likely a standard profile barrel which should give me about the same weight up front as the C4 and light weight barrel.

But what are you gaining with the standard profile? its the same under the hand guard.

    C4+LW = BCM-Keymod+Standard profile

You are gaining about 3.5oz going from lw to standard

What mrvip means I think is what benefit are you gaining by going govt over lw? Because it's not strength since from the gasblock back it's the same profile as the lw. All you are adding is weight at the end making it less balanced

If it were a socom profile barrel however it would be thicker on the first half but iirc bcm doesn't have a barrel this profile. Not to mention if they did it would be substantially heavier since the thicker profile would be almost another 10" which would add another 6.5ish oz. it would be nice to see a barrel that gradually tapers throughout from a socom profile down to just over a lw profile at the muzzle or at least the gasblock. It would weigh about the same as a govt profile barrel and be MUCH more balanced. I can't speak for accuracy though since I don't know how that would effect the harmonics of the barrel
