Btw, the glass on the ultra dot is pretty bad IMO, compared to an aimpoint.
The selling thing is just a smart come back,I'm a snarky guy

    As far as improving myself...

I just enjoy the use of irons but with the Ultradot I'm curious if any has used them on an AR and what their results were,I'm sure it's not a to hell and back optic but for day to day use out in the woods and farm pretty much what I'm doing (except for the farm part)

I've already had the thing soaked and probably have banged it into a few things, main thing I'm getting from this forum is no one cares about regular use dot sights it's all just GI Joe antics.

If I knew that I'd have just stuck this in the hunting section or perhaps the retro area since the Ultradot is (and maybe was) of a type of one of the first used back in the 90's

I don't claim it to be the best BTW just that all the talk of it I've heard has been about 85-90% positive so you guys don't like it? meh okay.

Yet from what I gather you guys are okay with Vortex? or not, anyway most places I've been to the Tactical gear section is okay with less then army tough stuff as long as you admit it and admit it's best use may be hunting at most.

Remember I'm new here and not up to your speed so gimme a chance! I know now if it's not Aimpoint,Eotech,Acog or such you don't wanna hear it.

For now the thing will do until I can get better stuff, later on I'll go to something else.

If you want to get a feel for the forum, just read more and post less.

If you want to discuss gear then be prepared for direct feedback. If it's top of the line gear, durable, or military/SWAT grade stuff then the feedback will be generally positive. If it is casual hobbyist grade gear then the feedback will be generally negative.

Around here AimPoints and Eotechs are "regular use" optics. See, the thing is most people that frequent this forum want an optic that's quality. Something that you can rely on. You can plink all day with a quality, hard use optic. You also don't have to worry that it's going to shit the bed at the least opportune time. On that note, why don't you take your "antics" and find a forum that shares the same views as you.

I run a vortex strike-fire on my BCM middy as a placeholder until I can afford to get an Aimpoint Pro, or a T-1. I can honestly say that I am impressed with the optics quality. Would I want to take it to war? probably not because it is not proven in those situations. It works great for shooting paper and hold a zero no matter how many times I take it off and put it on. I think it's a great value and it will probably ride on a .22 or my Mossberg 500 later on. It's also a great relatively inexpensive way to find out if a red dot is actually for you instead of blowing money on a more expensive optic just to find out you don't like it.

We're not picking on you. We're just saying that for our kind of use, and firing schedule, the optic you picked would serve us quite poorly.

And as far as your "RDS are more durable than scopes" thing:

Schmidt & Bender scopes break less than most EOTechs.*

*I'm referring specifically to the older 551s. And I'm aware of how many more of them exist than S&B Short Dots. So that screws up the average a little.
    We miss you, AC.

Not true. Vortex has hit and miss products... Their red dots are sub par, although not sure about their mini red dot. Some of their scopes are also sub par, but some are pretty darn good.

And it's not just Eotech, Aimpoint, and Trijicon. Nightforce, S&B, Swarovski, Leupold, Bushnell (1-6.5x), US Optics, and a few others have one or more products worth considering for a hard use weapon. Even Eotech is only really worth considering for their xps and exps product lines.

I have to agree with this completely. Vortex rds could be great, if they put better QC in place, re-designed their stupid switches, and upgraded their circuitry...but that would put them at a different price point, and I'm not sure at that price point, they would fair well against the proven competition. I have a Strikefire, and a Sparc...they aren't bad for what you pay for them, but I wouldn't trust them to last hard use for long.
