What I was implying with the Colt spring is that it's a known quality. Many so called "Mil-Spec" parts vary a lot in lots of ways.
It's more of a consistency thing than anything else. Same as comparing different brands of 11.5" carbine gas uppers, they are similar, but not the same.

The colt spring has more pre load than the supplied Vltor spring. If running weak ammo is important, user the Vltor spring or a Wolff reduced power rifle spring. I use the Wolff RP to great effect.

The Brownells CS rifle spring is slightly weaker than the Vltor as well. The colt is nearly as stiff as the Springco green.
I own all of these springs.

Well, that explains Tom's comments. I'm currently running the Springco Green, with the Vltor on standby. I prefer the additional zip provided by the green, so I'm trying to make it work with that. It has been running 100% with the A5H2 and Springco Green, with PMC ammo and the standard auto carrier. I'm going to try the E-carrier again with some full power ammo just to see how it does.

Mtdawg - does the SR-16 barrel have the same port size as the SR-15 11.5"? IIRC it does. But the one I had seemed to seemed to like low powered ammo less than the SR-15 upper.

Yes, it is ported the same as the 11.5 factory SR15 SBR. It seems to be ported just about right, as it's been reliable with 223 brass cased ammo without beating you to death with full power 5.56mm.

Yeah, the progression of spring strength goes like this, from strongest to weakest: Wolff XP Rifle, Springco Green, Wolff Std Power Rifle, Colt Rifle, Vltor A5, Brownells CS Rifle, Wolff Reduced Power Rifle.

The Tubbs Flat wire CS is a strange bird and I haven't done much testing with it. It has the immediate out-of-battery pressure of a Wolff Std Rifle (stronger than a std Vltor A5 spring), but as the stroke increases, it almost feels like it gets weaker. When fully retracted, it feels more like a Brownells CS Rifle or Wolff RP Rifle spring.

Haven't tried a BCM Rifle spring. I got my Colt Rifle springs from SAW.

Am I the only one who is happy with my sr15 factory setup. Even with just a birdcage. I almost can't justify adding a comp. I like the idea of the a-5 but I feel like its kind of a waste on a midlength rifle. Let alone an sr15. If I'm missing out on something please sell it to me as I'm always looking for new ways to justify the money I spend.

Honestly, it doesn't make a huge difference on the SR15. If shooting suppressed, it might be worthwhile.

The added difference isn't really the felt "feel", it is the difference in a broader range in "reliability" of the A5 system has to offer in the KAC rifles.
The KAC rifles are great, it can be a way of making them even better to insure consistent function.

Are we talking about a broader range of ammo strength? I can see it on an sbr maybe but I'm curious. I've always ran the carbine buffer and had great luck I guess. I run some garbage ammo sometimes. All winter I run tulammo and wolf so I don't have to pick it up. And no hiccups yet. I'll admit when I run brass it's never m855 always m193. 55grain. I really want to know if I'm missing out here.
