A small update to this thread. I recently picked up a couple of enhanced carriers to play with. I've been running one for a few months in a 17" rifle gassed Noveske build that worked well.

I dropped one into the 11.5 KAC gun described earlier in this thread. Unfortunately, the E-carrier proved too much for that setup with PMC ammo. Consistent short stroking. The bolt was a tight fit in the carrier, so it may improve with some breaking in and mating of the gas rings to the carrier. I'll probably run a couple hundred rounds of 5.56 through it in a couple weeks and then see if it will run with PMC after that, just to satisfy my curiosity. Just to be clear, I've tinkered with this gun quite a bit, so short stroking is attributed to stupid user tricks and not the gun. Between the A5 system, different buffers and action springs, I've managed to find a fine line between soft shooting and "shit don't work". With the current setup and a standard carrier, it's good to go. I imagine that it would work with the E-carrier and a suppressor, but I want to be sure it's also good to go unsuppressed.

Mtdawg168, what A5 buffer and spring are you running in the KAC 11.5"?

    A5H2 and Springco Green

Keep in mind, I've been experimenting primarily with PMC ammo. I had a handful of M193 with me today and it did lock back on empty with the 556 ammo.

I only run the green spring with A5H3 and A5H4 buffers to get some speed back. A Colt rifle spring could help. I don't like the PMC ammo, it's inconsistent and weak.

I've got a milspec spring on stand by. Regarding PMC, I agree, but it's better than steel cased. I've been using it as a minimum baseline primarily because I know it's weak. If I can get reliable function with PMC, it should run with whatever I would typically use. I'm trying to set it up for a good margin of reliability while still maintaining acceptable recoil characteristics.

Well, I've set up multiple KAC 11.5"s with the LMT enhanced carrier, A5H2 and Colt spring. That is a combo that works well until extreme cold with full power 5.56 ammo w/ no can. So I would assume that the green spring is a bit much. It is possible that there's some drag in the new carrier until it wears in.
Really though, the big benefit of this combo for these isn't reduced recoil, that's a byproduct. The big benefit is a wide range of reliability, with good ammo of course.

There's also many reasons that I said to use a Colt rifle spring and not "Mil-Spec" on the action spring. That's another subject altogether.

Roger that. I was only able to run a few rounds of full power ammo today, but it seemed to run fine. I'm going to tinker with it again with both PMC and full power ammo. We'll see what happens in a couple of weeks.

The one I have came from Vltor with the A5. IMHO, if switching between two mil spec springs is the defining factor in reliability, then the gun is probably too sensitive for my tastes.
