Offset BUIS or Offset Red Dot?

I have a DDM4V5LW I put a Trijicon Accupoint TR24G on and initially I was thinking about putting BUIS on along with an offset red dot (probably an Aimpoint micro), but I've been wondering if that might be a little over kill and if I should just put offset irons on the rifle.

The role of the rifle is a general purpose rifle I could use for home defense, carbine classes, plinking or God forbid SHTF. So, what is the general wisdom?

I'm rolling with a low power variable optic and off-set irons.

How's the weather where you're at in winter?

So basically you don't have to worry about your optic fogging up in cold weather. You also have the ability to quickly detach it if needed. I'm in north Florida and I have a TR24R on my rifle in a Bobro QD mount. I just run a set of Magpul BUS and I haven't had any problems with this setup, and that includes shooting in the rain with steam coming off the barrel. YMMV. Be advised that I'm only about a half step up from couch commando first class so take my input for what it's worth.

I was going to wait for the MBUS Pros to hit shelves, but then I started thinking if I really need BUIS plus offset Red dot... I'd rather have quality over quantity, so I don't mind putting an offset red dot on the Accupoint. I have a cat tail on back order, but I wouldn't mind being able to transition to 1x even quicker than the cat tail in case my TR24G happened to be on 4x in some SHTF scenario...

I've read accounts of people who run offset BUIS who believe not only is it sufficient, it's actually quicker close range than the red dot. Regarding handguns, I just bought a M&P CORE with RMR and I'm kinda seeing how that is possible....
