Are you looking for a recommendation of a barrel maker, or a retailer of custom barrels?

Grizzly tools keeps many popular calibers and contours of Bartlein barrel blanks in stock. Bartleins are a top choice in precision barrels.

Southern Precision Rifles/Bugholes also keeps many excellent barrel blanks in stock at great prices. Bartlein, Brux, Kreiger, and Rock Creek are all excellent choices.

Hart, Lilja, Brux, Bartlein, Kreiger to name a few. Probably more QUALITY builders out there than mediocre builders. Buy one of the current top names and it's tough to go wrong.

Why not just talk it over with your gunsmith and let him deal with it?

Criterion, Bergera, and Pacnor offer a Savage-esque barrel nut that allows the user to headspace with out serious tools. All 3 are high quality barrels.

Why not be your own gunsmith?

Also, ever seen what's involved in headspacing a R700? Metal has to be removed...and doing it wrong could lead to death.

And I'm actually a pretty big advocate of learning to do some of your own work...with modern plastic handguns and AR's. Other firearms you need to be an enthusiast who is willing to spend the time and money on the right tools...and you still need to know your limitations. I'd tell him that with the right videos and instructions he could handle swapping the trigger to a Timney. Barrel work is another matter in my opinion.

I would say doing it wrong haphazardly can lead to injury.

Either way, your previous post directing him to ask his gunsmith, does little to lead him to a good choice in barrels.

I don't think its above anyone to learn how to do something. I'd much rather know the proper way of doing something, so in the very least I can have an educated conversation with the person doing the work and know the process.
