    Sorry I missed this earlier.

We are very similar. Same age, same eyesight, even same state, just not the same part of it.

I have a Aimpoint M4S with clear Aimpoint lens covers and Larue Fixed BUIS with a same plane aperture.

I had a Aimpoint 3x with a Larue FTS magnifier and Troy BUIS. I didn't like the magnifier, it made the rifle very heavy, unbalanced when flipped to the side, and the eye relief was so short at times I banged myself in the glasses when shooting from jackass positions. It only magnifies the image, it doesn't have any type of hold overs or any points of reference to use for shooting at range and it only magnifies to 3X.

When I got rid of the FTS magnifier, I got rid of the Troy BUIS as well as I decided my rifle is used mostly for close range shooting and if I ever needed it and it goes down, I would rather have the BUIS right there without the need to flip them up.

Definitely look at getting the clear lense covers from Aimpoint. They are extremely sturdy and being clear, you can use the optic without needing to flip them out of the way. This was important to me because it resides under the bed with the dust bunnies.

Try and find someone that has a magnifier before you buy, you may not like it and it is fairly expensive piece of kit to find out that you don't like.

If I need magnification, I would either have another rifle with a magnified optic on it or just get good mounts and swap as needed.

Out of the box, does the Aimpoint M4S come with a mount? If yes,can I use the LMT Rear Sight without the Aimpoint M4S interfering with the field of view?
    Thanks in advance.

You can get one with it. It has spacers for lower 1/3 cowitness or absolute IIRC.

Neither will interfere with normal sighting through the optic.

I have the Larue lower 1/3 cowitness mount and I use a Larue BUIS with no issues.

I also have a M&P 15-22 with a jury rigged spacer setup and a Primary Arms M4 clone to mimic the lower 1/3 mount (2.73 in from centerline of bore), that I use the factory LMT clone sights on with no issue.

I use the iron sights on them all the time to confirm the zero of my RDS. (Lollipop the dot on the sights)

    Hope this helps.

How does the Aimpoint mount that comes with the M4s in the box compare with the Larue mount? Why do many people prefer it over the Aimpoint mount?
    Thanks.

The knob on the stock Aimpoint mount has a huge knob poking out the side. It's great for catching on other gear and poking you in the side if you sling the rifle.

The LaRue lever has a much lower profile.

    This.

On top of that, IIRC I paid less or the same for the Aimpoint in a Larue mount than I would have if I bought the Aimpoint and mount "kit" from the online optics dealers.

But it has been several years since I did that so I don't remember 100% for sure.

Definitely look at getting Aimpoint factory flip covers, WAY more sturdy than anything Butler Creek has ever made and much more convenient than the bikini covers.

Use Lithium AA, don't use Alkaline unless you have no other choice.

Don't waste the money on the Kill Flash. The honeycomb will interfere with your ability to see through the optic in Jackass eye positions. If you need to kill flash, use pantyhose and a rubber band. Works just as good and doesn't interfere with your ability to see through the optic and it is MUCH cheaper.
