I'm not sure if there is a "Best pistol tube" . I'm using a PSA receiver extension until stamp comes in. Picked it because it was the cheapest could find. LWRC has a real nice pistol buffer setup (shortest if not mistaken), if stamp is not part of long term plan.

Make it easy and just use a carbine extension with no stock.

    Use an A5 receiver extension.

Make a cheek rest by shaving down an M4 stock into a tube.

Pin the cheek rest on in front of the locking rail, in the same spot as the Magpul fixed carbine stock.

The pinned cheek rest prevents any shoulder stock from being readily attached.

This gives you a durable, insulated, cheek weld for your pistol that matches your rifles.

This allows you to use the A5 buffer, stake the castle nut and use your choice of QD/std end plates.

Okay this is why I bought everything else first cause I was thinking of using a regular carbine extention tube but from what I read is that you should modify a regular tube so that a stock is not easily attached.im just not wanting anyone who dont really know the laws to see that tube ready to go without a buttstock.
And my plan is to have this pistol untill I send in for a stamp but thats not going to be soon I dont think.....unless I cant stand having just a tube and no stock.

I guess if I went with a extention tube is there something that can go over it so you cant tell its just a regular tube and not a smooth one?

I'm not a lawyer and don't play one on TV. The last thing you should do is rely on the internet forums at all.

Having said that. If you can show me where it states that a tube must not be capable of accepting a stock, I'm all ears.

The same rationale that is being used regarding the stocks is the same they apply to short barreled uppers which is wrong. In theory there is not such thing as an AR pistol. It's a pistol- plain and simple.

An SBR is defined as; . A firearm that meets the definition of a SBR consists of a rifle that has a barrel less than 16 inches in length. So unless you attach a stock to it, it is not an SBR.

    Nothing is guaranteed.

If you're not doing dirtbag tricks, most likely you'll never have any trouble.

The "safest" bet is to use a dedicated pistol extension.

As IG said, you are probably legally fine with a CAR / A5 / Rifle extension as long as you don't attach a stock.

But I'm not comfortable with that, given the possible consequences.

One of the Opinion letters contained language similar to: "a stock cannot be readily attached".

For an extra measure of insurance, there are a variety of methods you can use to modify the RE so that a stock cannot be readily attached.

My example above was to pin a cheek rest onto an A5 RE.

The pinned cheek rest prevents any shoulder stock from being readily attached and leaves nothing up to "interpretation" by over zealous agents or local LE.
