Color me crazy but I am going to use a rifle tube for better balance and the LAW hinge for compact storage. GH

The "safest" bet is to use a dedicated pistol extension.

As IG said, you are probably legally fine with a CAR / A5 / Rifle extension as long as you don't attach a stock.

But I'm not comfortable with that, given the possible consequences.

One of the Opinion letters contained language similar to: "a stock cannot be readily attached".

For an extra measure of insurance, there are a variety of methods you can use to modify the RE so that a stock cannot be readily attached.

My example above was to pin a cheek rest onto an A5 RE.

The pinned cheek rest prevents any shoulder stock from being readily attached and leaves nothing up to "interpretation" by over zealous agents or local LE.
This is what im thinking.... and the words "a stock cannot be readily attached".
    Thats what makes me nervous

Lots of people like that tube.

It has a castle nut and end plate that can be staked, so that is good.

You could also cord-wrap a standard buffer tube with Paracord.
When your stamp comes in, remove cords and install your stock of choice. That way you are not buying 2 tubes, since you mentioned budget might be an issue.

A carbine tube is ok, as long as a stock is not laying around nearby. Or am I wrong?
