After the threads I have seen lately on gas blocks, set screws, loctite, and pinning I have one of the Black River Tactical DIY gas blocks with pin coming for my SBR that is right now only set screwed. (of course with all this talk of gun trusts being invalidated lately it may not matter much longer)

I use red Loctite 271. To remove I heat with a MAP gas torch for a few seconds.

I use red locktite as well. On top of that, I've staked the screws on my gas blocks for added assurance that they won't budge. I have yet to have a problem with any of them coming loose with the witness marks I made being aligned after thousands of rounds.

I have seen several instances where this product will not hold on small and or fine threads.

I will use the suggested set screws, set with Red 271 LockTite, staked and witness marked.
If this did by chance rattles loose, pinning will be the FINAL act.

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

I also use a spot of green loctite under the GB. People would be shocked to learn that if done right, this would keep a GB in place with NO screws!

    Ask me how I know.

Curious, why "red" loctite 271 over "blue" loctite 242? If you look at the datasheets both break down at 482F/250C. Since both will prevent the screw from backing out under vibration what are the benefits of 271 in this application?

    Re: Gas Block Screws

Are there any concerns with weakening the barrel by drilling and pinning?

If it is done right, no. Are standard FSB barrels "weaker" since they are drilled and pinned? No.

An expert opinion on pinning: https://www.m4carbine.net/showpost.p...6&postcount=16 from this thread: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=20131

    Gas Block Screws

Never any issues with Red 271. Either with cupped, or pointed set screws. I torque the dog piss out of them with a liberal application of the loc tite.. When finished ill puddle a drop on each screw head and let the upper rest upside down overnight to let it all set up. It won't come lose. I've had barrels smoking, with rails so got you couldn't touch them with anything but a heavy gloved hand...upon inspection the puddle is still solid. Like liquid weld.
