    Rechamber

I've got a custom 700 with a 1:14 twist bartlein 26" barrel. It's currently chambered in 6x47 Lapua. I'm going to change it up so that I can shoot store bought ammo. It currently shoots bugholes with 70 grain NBT's. I'm thinking rechamber to .243 win. There's lots of store bought options in the 55 to 75 grain varieties. What do you guys think?

your 1:14 Twist sucks for anything LR oriented. That said, if you're ok with shooting those light bullets, 243 is not a bad choice, considering there is a ton of available ammo over the counter.

Duh, it's a varmint hunting rig. If long range paper punching was the deal, it'd need a lot quicker twist for sure. There's a couple good offerings from federal for 55-70 grain store bought ammo. It should be deadly accurate out to about 300 or so would be my guess. Anything much past that wouldn't be any good.

I probably do, but just looking for second opinions. I could also rebarrel the rifle into whatever and then sell off the old barrel. It's cheaper to rechamber and I think I'd be happy with a dedicated varmint .243 but curious if anyone has any input. The other rechamber option is 6mm rem but there's not much in the line of factory ammo for it vs. the .243.

i'm a huge Fan on the 6mm Creedmoor. i also like the 6x47L yer wanting to get rid of. that said, i tend to lean towards the 6mm/8 Twist sort of flavor. the external ballistics are unbeatable for LR.

but yeah for a 300 yard and in Laser Beam, coyote killer, i think a 58gr boolit comin out of a .243 fast is awesome

That's how I'm leaning. Keeps me from coming out of pocket too much to get it the way I want it. I traded for the rifle so I'm not out as much as if I'd bought it. The shop that built it charges 4k for a build. It's a really nice rifle and the gunsmith that built it would do the rechamber so it's just like as if they'd done it from the start. I just don't have time to reload with a new kid on the way so I need to stick to something that can be bought for right now.

I know a lot of people want a .243 to shoot everything from 55 grain to 120 grain but I just don't have a need for a do it all gun. I've got a great .25-06 for 120 grains, then several others for bigger stuff. Plus several AR's.

Why not spend the money on a basic RELOADING outfit? You can reload your 6x47 ammo and most likely turn out far more accurate and cheaper ammo than buying factory .243 win.
