Not Grant, but as someone with a passing interest in the AUG myself, I think you're going to hear something along these lines ...
What is it that you expect an AUG to do better, or more consistently, than an AR? Although training is always a relevant factor, the ergos of the gun aren't really on par with the AR, the trigger is dreadful by way of comparison and your configuration options are always going to be more limited. The AUG clearly has its compact size going for it, but so too does an AR/SBR. Whether or not some of the other so-called "limitations" of the platform are valid is probably up to each end-user to decide, but if you're just making a feature-by-feature list, things are going to get lopsided in a hurry.
I'd still like to own an AUG just to play with the possibilities. It is an interesting rifle with a decent reputation, and we're fortunate indeed to have them available again. That said, I don't necessarily consider the AUG a replacement, nor even a peer competitor for, a properly-configured AR. It is a cool curiousity and another type of tool in the toolbox, but probably better-suited to specific roles than the "do-everything" expectations that we tend to cast upon the AR. I think it is silly not to view the AUG as a rifle with some real potential, but if you're talking about potential on a truly exponential scale, then you end up right back where you started: with an AR hanging off your shoulder.
