I'm just a big fan of using what works for you.

Just because it works for 70% of everybody else does not mean it will work for you.

Oh yea. I was the a-hole who brought an AK to an AR convention.

The down side to the 7.62 and 5.45 AK's is the quality and availability of defensive ammo for them. There are MUCH better (and more technology advanced) bullets available on the .223/5.56 side.

So I would always have an AR available to me for these two reasons alone.

Good on you for running your AK in a AR class!

    Thanks Grant, PM sent.

And thank you Army Chief for the perspective, I like getting as many viewpoints as possible before buying anything.

Now, back to the regularly scheduled programming.

Similarly, "AK" is short for an AK-47 or any of its variants.

"Assault Rifle" isn't in my vocabulary.
I concur. If it isn't select fire, it isn't an assault rifle ... no matter what the gummint says.

The government is calling them Personal Defense Weapons when they started looking for bids for select fire carbines.

    Interesting.

Considering the fact that they would be the first to use them in an offensive manner.

I may just start calling all weapons I own a Personal Defense Weapon. That's good..... That's real good.

I have had my Colt LE6920 for 8 months now, and don't really have that much on it.

I didn't plan to get a scope until I found out my 65 year old eyes aren't 30 anymore. I got an Eotech EXPS3, and also need a magnifier for 100 yards and beyond. Being able to use both eyes with the Eotech makes it good up to 100 yards. With the iron sights, I never could use both eyes, and 60-70 yards was about the limit.

I don't have a light on my gun, and probably never will. I carried one on my belt for 30 years in the Air Force, and 4 tours in Iraq as a civil service tech rep. That's how I'm used to using the light.

By the way, in 4 Iraq tours I never saw a soldier with a light on his weapon.

The vertical foregrips look comfortable, but I want to try one before I spend on it and the quad rail to support it. Maybe the Colt lacking a quad rail is why the soldiers don't mount lights.

I guess my gun is stock except for the red dot and magnifier. If I decide to use the Colt for HD, I'll take the magnifier off except for at the range.

Bottom line : that's the way I do it. I shouldn't, and don't, expect others to only do it my way. Different strokes for different folks.

Really? How hard did you look? I can literally send you 10,000 pics of Active Duty guys with weapon lights on their guns!

It is of course your right to do whatever you want to your rifle, but if you have any thought on grabbing your Colt in the dark, I would STRONGLY suggest mounting a weapon light to it (as you do not see in the dark).

What worries me the most is that the "majority" of gun owners do not seek out training...instead they go to shooting ranges to get "tips" from other non-educated shooters

People bring there DPMS/Delton quality rifles deck it out with ALL magpul stuff they have no idea how it works than they put on a Barska scope or RDS and it does not zero etc...than they go out and buy a 600 dollar eotech to put on a DPMS/Delton crap...all because the dealer said it was MILSPEC

Some of the firearms talk I have heard over the years both ranges and gunshops makes me just There is two gunshops now that I do not go to locally because they are absolute idiots
