For me, I see enough negative comments about the M16/M4 family that I have to correct some of it. People worry about things that simply aren't going to happen.

I own, like and sell all kinds of guns and would encourage people to buy as much as they like as often as they like. Just know WHY you are buying something and don't base it off of myths.

Fact and Bullshit are hard to filter in the firearms world. Especially with all the misinformation out there put out by people who have never done anything and are unqualified to offer an opinion. Even the switched on people don't always get it right either.

They are. The great thing about the net is that the amount of info available is huge. The bad thing about the net is that the amount of info available is HUGE!

A remember a guy (who was supposedly active duty) at a gun show talk about how ineffective the 5.56 round was. Okay. Tell that to all the bad guys our platoon put down with 5.56.

I hear this sort of thing when someone sees me shooting a M1 Carbine. It's the same old story from a newer generation.

Once people realize how reliable the AR is, the biggest strike it gets is its "pea-shooter only for varmint hunting" round.

The 7.62x39 is bigger and in most cases cheaper than the teeny tiny 5.56x45 is what I also hear.

When I hear misinformation regarding anything, especially firearms, I don't say a thing.

It's not my duty to correct the world.

You can look at it or you can look at it as helping your fellow shooter make a more informed opinion.

If all the "knowledgeable" people never helped me learn about guns, training and shooting I would be in a much worse place. So I greatly appreciate it and try to pass it along.

There is a lot of fantasy what if for sure. And lets be honest very few of us in the AR community will use these things for "real" if we are some sort of civilan.

As for fantasy, one example i found really fun was a couple years back how some dumb vendor at a gun show tried to sell me on the benefits of his overpriced POF piston pig with some fantasy story of how it would be the gun he would choose to "send tons of fire down range" after "slogging through a creek full of mud." I walked away smiling...

A more practical question of fantasy I get sometimes is when people see my NSR rail with no covers. They ask if it will get hot and uncomfortable to shoot. I tell them I wear gloves when I plan to shoot all day or train as it does get hot after a few mag dumps and I train with gloves anyway. They then ask me what about if you have to open fire at home defense in the night, will you have time to put on gloves... LOL.. I guess if i have to have shoot 120 rounds in my house that i would have bigger problems than a warm hand guard.. LOL And how likely is that anyway since im not part of some drug cartel, i only sell computer software for a living...

Finally as Graint said, may guys who do this for real load out light. I think i read in "No Easy Day" that Matt only had 4 rifle mags on him, one in the gun and 3x on his PC... And this was nab UBL...

Speaking to Grant's original comment, I hope I made a rational decision with my rifles. I am not .mil, LEO, etc., just a regular citizen who enjoys shooting. I knew that statistically speaking, I'd never do anything with my guns other than put holes in paper. So, I could have gotten a cheap DPMS/Del-Ton etc. and it probably would have served my needs. The odds of me ever needing to fire on another human are almost zero.
    But they're not zero.
So, why not spend a little more money, and get a rifle that I can trust my life to? I'm buying an item I expect to last the rest of my life with proper maintenance, and the initial expense is trivial when viewed over a 30+ year service life. And in the extremely unlikely event that I need to call on this rifle to defend my life or the lives of my loved ones, I can count on it to function properly.
To that end, I bought a BCM 16" middy and an Arsenal SAM7r. For someone to claim that one platform is universally garbage and the other is the pinnacle of firearms design is to ignore half a century each of proven use. As with most things, it is important to know what you're buying and be able to tell the difference between high quality and junk. Both rifles are as accurate and reliable as I need for what they'll probably be used for, and give me the peace of mind that either will perform if called on for more serious duty.
I long ago learned the truth of "buy cheap, buy twice", but since I've joined M4C it's been made clear that buying quality isn't really that much more expensive initially, and is usually a lot cheaper in the long run.
