    Hmmmm........

I -REALLY- appreciate you guys posting those. That's what mine look like without proper torque. I'll mess around with it again today, switching the front and rear rings just for fun.

Just want to clarify that those are not my photos, just quoted the comment from a prior poster.

On my ADM Recon the rings are touching. Scope is a Z6i.

    Front ring

    Rear ring

Ignore the bungee caps... Haven't got around to getting flip ups.

    Ok..... So... Definitely NO GAP.

This is the 30mm ADM with a Vortex 2.5-10x in it. Vortex is telling me the massive shifts in impact that happen OCCASIONALLY for strings of one to 10 rounds or so. Is all because my mount may not be clamping down tight enough. However... I scribed the scope in the mount, shot it this weekend, no movement, had poi shift (hits went 15-20" high at 525y) right after getting hits on target.

... So, I'm going to try putting this scope in rings I guess, although I know the scope is not moving and then returning to where it was before firing, so, not sure this reported issue makes sense to me.

    Any thoughts?

Looks like you may want to check torque. Is the left screw tighter? The gap is wider at the right than it is at the left; based on a picture that could be misleading.

This is normal when you use a torque wrench on two bolts that secure the same scope ring. The first screw hits the torque value, compressing the scope ring. Then the second screw can turn a little further on the exact same torque value because of the tension from the first.

If it bugs you, simply tighten the second bolt only until the gap is even, but know it will be slightly less than the desired torque amount.

When you torque the second screw, you are removing tension from the first screw.

Which is why you return to the first screw and torque it again. Just like lug nuts.

At which point they'll be uneven again. You can go back and forth between the two and they'll keep turning, just a little bit, and you'll be tightening the ring up past what was intended.

Torque 3x checked on mine, more than 3x actually, over a couple different installs.

I'm going to get some 30mm rings appopriate for AR tomorrow. Maybe this weekend I'll be able to try again. If it does or doesn't mess up I'll know who to go to next!
