If the OP or any other board member here* wants a FSB shave, I'd be happy to do it for them free of charge. If you are short on the tools, time, or know how just pay the postage both ways and I'll get it done however you like. I have two professional knife making bench grinders (no Dremels) that I use, which make it a clean and quick job. The only thing I can't do is re-finish it for you.

    Nice!
    Good on you!

    Refinishing is easy.
High temp engine paint does well.
As a bonus, it is a very flat black.

That thing you asked for? No need to PM you. You just supplied some right HERE:

OP, since this wasn't addressed by you, or any other member here thus far...

If this rifle is intended as a home defense weapon, I will strongly advise against a 1-4X variable.
If this is the case, leave the A2 and use a QUALITY red dot like an Aimpoint, or an Aimpoint, or maybe even an Aimpoint. (See a pattern here.)
If on occasions you desire to shoot longer ranges, a quality 3X magnifier works well.
You won't be shooting match groups, but you will be hitting steel, (obviously provided that you do your part), easily out to 300yrds.

My vote is for a low pro gas block, throw an (E)XPS w/ a G33 mag, a set of folding BUIS & call it a day.

.... it's been installed. You WILL nick the barrel. Do it right, disassemble it and then grind on just the FSB. Ask me how I know.
    Curious why bother disassemble?
Secure the barrel or even the entire upper in the vise protect everything with say a wet towel, or whatever. Cut/grind away.
Touch up high temp paint, install handguard, optics etc.
    Go shoot.

As he alluded to, he's nicked the barrel trying to do it assembled.

Having chopped these on barrels with permanently installed muzzle devices, I can attest that you most certainly can do it without disassembly.

A couple wraps of masking tape on the barrel on either side will catch a slip.

Right on. I use the fuzzy little FS image seen through the low power scopes as a cant indicator. Really tightens up my zeroing and accuracy groups noting it's position at dead 12 o'clock as I squeeze off a shot.

I have also taken to my Roto-Zip and a 3.5" metal cutting blade for the FSB cutting. Much more control than my Dremel.
