Probably only NEED one but why not have more?
Your thread caused me to look at my inventory document for your amusement. Apparently the correct answer is 13.
As I stated earlier; I'm currently at six. Two of them are down in Miami with my Father. He loves the SP1 as it reminds him of being a rookie cop in Miami in 1975 and the Colt 6721 is for HD.
Right now I have an 11.5 inch SBR, a 6721 clone, a Dissipator, and a 18 inch SPR hunting rig build. The SBR for me was my duty gun when I worked down south. The two sixteen inch carbines are for myself and my wife. I keep the SBR for HD and she has her carbine which is the 6721 clone. The Dissipator for me is a sport gun for plinking, 3 gun, steel match, and general horse play. Plus I've always liked the Dissipator style and it makes a good truck gun when I cross into GA.
I have guns for different reasons. I collect, carry, shoot, hunt, and work with them. Some are for fun, some for games, some for hunt, some for work, and some just to have.
I say have as many as you want and do what you want. Not everyone is a door kicker and not everyone is a fudd either. Due what you want with them.

Well since the lower is actually the firearm, I guess I would have even more - I have quite a few stripped and standing by.
But in reality, I think it is real easy to get caught up in the hype (I am not using that word in a negative sense); there will always be a latest and greatest. You will need to continually be evaluating each rifle's designed intention and your current financial/personal situation and what goals you have set. That of course will be different for just about everyone.
That would be my only recommendation to anyone, although I would phrase it that you should have a minimum of two so that you have redundancy for training purposes. Based on family commitments over the last couple years, it's been a while since I attended a training course outside of work, but I hope to get to one later this year, and I'd want a backup to make sure that I wouldn't miss out on any training time while fiddling with repairs on the sidelines, after paying a couple hundred bucks for a class. While I wouldn't necessarily want them to be identical, I'd want them configured similarly for familiarity during training. I'm not there yet...

The fact that you are even asking this question means you don't own enough.
I guess more than what I have now because I have plans to build or buy a few more.
