Jesus christ this training blah blah is getting old around here.

I know people with ZERO "proffesional" training who can shoot lights out against some 40 year old fat slob decked out in ATACS and wearing $2K in queer gear.

I know a SHIT load of people "professional" training as infantryman and Cav scouts, who couldn't shoot if their life depended on it, and can barley do basic battle drills.

I know people who has no training, yet i would rather have them next to me in a firefight then some guys I have served/deployed with.

Now you guys decide how many guns people should own?

Sounds a like something Obama would say.

Be it a class, 3 gun whatever. There is an advantage to owning one AR. It forces you to become very acclimated with it. Not a bad thing. If you have the urge to train and get better then there is no shame in owning just one AR15.

This is kind of where I have ended up. For the most part I have two, with enough parts for a third and then some. (I'm not counting the A2 my dad passed down to me nor my wife's LW carbine, just the ones I regularly shoot.) At first, the idea of having a lot of rifles was appealing, but the more I shoot, the more I tend to shoot one carbine in particular. So I have my main one and a backup that is ready to go, with enough maintenance spares to get me by for the foreseeable future. For me, my money is better spent on the occasional improvement/tweak to what I am happy with and ammo to keep shooting, rather than acquiring more AR's. (And training when it is somewhat conveniently available.)

That doesn't mean 'no more guns,' as I am now looking at bolt action 7.62/.308 rifles and will probably look for a decently priced AK as well. However, when it comes to AR's, for me, I don't see myself growing that number anytime soon, unless it's an SBR. I think Stickman's answer of 'do what you want' is the best rule of thumb, as we all have different needs/wants. I don't think there is a set number of what is 'too many.'

I have had several ARs, sold most, use my one Walmart 6920, and my Colt M16A1. I have one more 6920 LE marked gun as a collector's piece, and that's it for ARs. Because I also like other guns. But as to your question: you have too many when you have spent more than you can afford. Otherwise, there is no way to own too many guns.

After your food, rent, utilities, education, family, and other essentials are taken care of... As many guns as possible.

They are pretty much set up identically, so if I had to pick up my secondary in an emergency, I wouldn't have to re-familiarize myself with a different AR. Each person will have their own reason for the amount of ARs they own though.
This is pretty much where I'm at. I'm good with two, but would consider a third if money and/or time permits to put together another one, but it's hardly a neccessity. I'm about done experimenting with different configurations and builds and have settled for what works best for me and my intended uses. I can divert my attention to other priorities and put the extra money towards more ammo/training. There might come a day when I want to satisfy some other itch such as precision long range marksmanship, but for now I'm happy with what I'm already familiar with.

How many do you need ? One at home and one in your vehicle, in case you stop at range on way home, or require it for employment reasons. How many do you want ....is a different question altogether

My first, instinctual answer to the question is, "All of them" would be too many. The rest of us want at least one.

On further reflection, my real answer would be, "If you have no use for it, it's too many." A rifle without a use - HD, training, plinking, gift, etc. - is just an expensive dust collector. But if every rifle you own has a purpose, and you haven't gone broke getting them, they're not too many.

A rifle without a use is called a hard asset. Better than a savings account.

If your answer is yes to the above, then buy another AR!

    Agreed with Grant.

Or in some cases, as many as your budget allows. For some that can be 1, others 20.
