Originally I wanted one for me and each of my five siblings for SHTF. But that was before I discovered how much fun it is putting together custom builds. Now I have to break them down to cram all into the safe.

I'm retired, single and it's an enjoyable hobby. Plus shooting is about the only activity my brother and I both enjoy. Can't see why I need more justification than that.
The beasts of modernism have mutated into the beasts of postmodernism—relativism into nihilism, amorality into immorality, irrationality into insanity, sexual deviancy into polymorphous perversity. And since then, generations of intelligent students under the guidance of their enlightened professors have looked into the abyss, have contemplated those beasts, and have said, “How interesting, how exciting.”

Personally, I think you should do what you want.
Amen. My father owned many guns but rarely shot. It takes all kinds. At this point in my life I just want to shoot. Plus, I can't fit anymore long guns in my safe.

If you're a collector I suppose you can never really have too much of whatever it is you're collecting (unless you're just a dirty hoarder). If you're an end-user I think you should buy however many you feel comfortable owning. I shoot to hone my marksmanship skills and because it's therapeutic. With that said, I have no safe queens and don't feel the need to have a bunch of guns just to keep up with the Jones'. Choose the best answer:

    a) To each his own
    b) Life's too short
    c) You only live once
    d) Do what makes you happy
    e) All of the above

I feel you. Seeing the prices on AR's, after the whole panic, has made me want to get some more. I've seen complete milspec m4 lower's right now for $170!

My problem was I had 3 AR's and I spent all my money customizing them that I didn't have enough cash for ammo, so I got burnt out having AR's that I never used and sold them for crazy high prices during the "assault weapons" panic. Now, I'm wishing I would have kept at least one...

My advice would be, if you have a couple AR's already, spend the money on two thousand rounds or so...

One or two for you and one for each family member. I agree with Grant that ammo and training takes precedence over a new AR. Times 2 especially when not proficient.

I've been slowly selling off unused ARs and AKs to friends since sandyhook went down and currently down to 3 of various barrel lengths and 1 AK variant. They are all the variety I need currently, and I may at some point in the future, have to arm friends or neighbors who are former military that don't have one.

I think Stickman said it best, do whatever floats your boat. And if you have too many you can always sell the one(s) you like the least and buy ammo or build another.

I would suggest being a well rounded gun owner.

Guns, training, ammo and NO debt.

    Cool

You buy a 6920, remove the carry handle, replace the flash hider, hand guard, trigger guard, trigger, safety, take down pins, grip, charging handle & stock.
Then you buy a few spare parts, maybe find a deal on a stripped lower.
It was so much fun that you want to do it again.
Then the left over pieces start conspiring with the spare parts, begging to be made into a second rifle. Before you know it, you buy an upper & another bcg & have assembled another rifle looking exactly like the one you bought originally. You then rationalize it as a KISS rifle.
It can be an addiction. This site makes it even more tempting.
