How Many ARs Are Too Many?

Unless you already had professional training, one is enough. First build the software, them the hardware.

Depends on safe capacity... That's the deal...

The whole time I ws looking at it, I could hear my credit card screaming from my wallet, "Hey, don't forget I'm in here!"

I resisted the temptation and it got me to thinking, how many ARs are too many? I have only been involved with ARs for about a year and have already managed to pick up three. My daughter even bought herself one. The three that I have are probably more than I will ever NEED, but I still have a list of ARs that I would eventually like to own, as well as a few build ideas. What do you guys think?

    I have 2. A "KISS" CAR-16 and a 10.3" MK18. I only desire one more, a MK12. I dont really see the purpose having more than that.

For me...after decades of shooting the AR platform, I've come to my own realization that 2 is all I needed. One as primary for the shooting range and home defense, and the second as a back-up in case the primary were to become unusable for whatever reason. They are pretty much set up identically, so if I had to pick up my secondary in an emergency, I wouldn't have to re-familiarize myself with a different AR. Each person will have their own reason for the amount of ARs they own though.

I have three. Two are general purpose rifles in 5.56, and one is a .22lr plinker. I plan on building at least one more, a precision build most likely also in 5.56.
For most people, I think that two is a good round number because one is none and two is one. That said, if your budget allows, add more and have fun. As long as each rifle fills a role and serves a purpose, more power to you.
Just be sure that each rifle as associated magazines, ammo, sling, and at least a small piece of gear to carry mags. This way, they can be handed out with gear to arm family if need be.

This is a tough question as the industry is constantly pushing boundaries and making great improvements to gear and weapon systems. When I got my first Ar I had to have a fixed carry handle for the classic look. Then I fell in love with flat tops and Aimpoints. Do you sell your rifle and buy/build another with your new perspective in mind? I am constantly evolving the way I shoot and my gear setup but sometimes you just have to build something else. I hated fde furniture and ctr stocks when they started appearing and claimed that I'd never use something like that. They're all I use now. Anyway Sometimes you need more than one but everyone is right on training first.

For me the answer is seven. I have more lowers now then uppers. Once 5.7 ammo becomes more reasonable I will likely get an AR-57 upper to go with my fn but still at a loss for the others. Maybe an SBR?

I went this route also. Two hard use rifles set up the same way. I also have a CMP rifle, but it is for fun and would not trust my life to it. The hard use guns get handled and shot a lot. I know them well. Any other builds will be for entertainment only.

I think you have too many ARs when you can't afford to shoot them all.

I currently have 1. Used to have two. With the other filling pretty much the same role as the first. But kept it in mind, as a backup gun to the first. Backup in case something catastrophic happened to the first. So with my one gun, I have two more that I really want. A seconed to be used as a back up, then a 20 inch a2 configuration. That's all I can really imagine I'd want. Just enough to let me keep shooting as much as a can without much of a hiccup
