    Really Bad idea IMO.
As written, this post is wrong.

I definitely wouldn't leave it in a car, but I could see creating some kind of easy access hiding place in the trunk like a spare tire.

You can only travel with your SBR in the same state it is registered in. If you plan on crossing a state line with an NFA item you must notify the ATF and fill out a form for them to approve. You will need a form for each state you will be traveling to. Not an ideal "truck gun" if you are crossing state lines.

You realize you can get permission for up to a year at a time, right?

Yes, but no one had mentioned this important issue and I wanted the OP to be aware of it. Seems like a lot of hassle for a "truck gun".

If you have this happen more than once, expect an ATF visit.

Irresponsible people that leave their gun in their car are one of the reasons we are in the situation we are in now.

We are under a microscope. Some irresponsible dumbasses give the liberals a talking point.
I don't think that irresponsible people have created the situation we are in. Unless you are refering to inttectually irresponisble culture we live in. your argument to me reminds me of the battered wife having to watch every word to not upset the abusive husband.
