    Odd 10.5 SBR issues

This is my first somewhat intelligent post after a few years keeping my mouth shut learning.

I purchased a 10.5 full Centurion Arms upper with 9 inch rail directly from Centurion Arms, with a Centurion M16 Bolt Carrier. After finally getting my stamp back it was off to the range. The lower is a factory Armalite lower with 2 stage trigger (in spec with 1000-2000 rounds on it, and soon to be re-gutted with a kit from Grant) On the first range trip, the gun failed to extract, and would not lock back with any buffer (Carbine/H/H2 BCM Buffers/Springs) Ammo used was a mix of Federal XM193 5.56, Federal American Eagle .223, and Winchester white box .223.

The malfunctions were not ammo specific, and the lower runs fine with my 16 inch upper. Also ran the gun with an LMT full auto carrier and same results. Mags/Ammo also ran fine in the other upper with same lower. After some emails with Monty of Centurion, the gun was shipped back to have the gas port opened slightly.

Fast forward a few weeks, and with the upper back, I hit the range. Gun locks back on H and H2 buffers, the malfunctions changed. Now about every mag to every other mag I had a double feed, or a failure to eject. The casing would exit the chamber this time, however jam up inside the gun, to include two casings at different times becoming stuck between the upper receiver and BCG. I did not try it with the LMT BCG, however we ran my mags and ammo through a buddy's Adams Arms 7.5 with no issue. They were also not ammo specific issues.

Now I know Centurion's reputation, and have no issue with them thus far. I would just like to attempt to eliminate sending it back again. My thought process is telling me that it may need the Crane O Ring/Extractor upgrade like the MK18s in the Centurion Arms BCG? I have no problem with doing this cheap upgrade if it will fix the issue.

I have already sent emails to Centurion Arms about the new issue, and am awaiting a reply. Just want to poke a few brains because after a lot of searching, I found anything to help me thus far. I would like to get the gun running 100%. I have seen a lot of 10.5s that run well, so I know it can be done!

    Thanks guys

When you say double feed are you saying your getting 2 live rounds trying to chamber? Or a case is getting stuck in the chamber and a live round is getting pushed up behind it? Which is a failure to eject. Regardless, i think you need to run an O ring and the heaviest buffer you can get away with(probably H2) and see how that works.

99% sure they were both live rounds, the failure to extract from the chamber seemed to have went away since the gas port was opened, just now sometimes fail to eject from the receiver

Hope I don't come across as a dick, but this is exactly why an 11.5" barrel is really the right way to go with a SBR/MG/Pistol. The only 10" gun I've had work perfectly was the HK416.

No offense taken, I'm regretting the decision as well and will prob be on the bcm 11.5/12.5 bandwagon shortly, I've seen a lot of 10.5s run well, however this has made me lose confidence

Why do you think adding 1" of barrel to the gun would fix the problem? Do you even know what the problem is?

A double-feed is a magazine problem... so if you had two live rounds pop out and try to feed together, that's a coincidence and unrelated.

Have you tried the upper on a different lower? Do you know what size the port was, and what they opened it up to? I assume you've tried different springs?

I have a very similar issue with an 11.5 BCM. It ran great for almost 5000 rounds, now is doing the same things. In my case it started about 500 rounds after changing the rail to an NSR. I'm pretty sure its in my gas block or tube. J. Fuhrman also had such an issue, Bravo found it to be the gas block.

Check your ejector. Spring might be weak or damaged. Also check to see how the cases fit under the extractor. It could be gripping the rim enough to extract but not holding it tight enough against the ejector for proper function. What's happening is that the case is getting extracted but not ejected
