For non-free float, I wouldn't say much. I don't know much about that Troy rail, but the KAC rail tensions against the delta ring to create a pretty dang solid rail setup. If you are going to differ from the specs and parts minus barrel length due to legality, then why call it the socom though? Why not just put a matech and Troy rail on 6920 and sell that variant. Of course you have the ambi safety and heavy barrel with cutouts if the Troy version has those.
My team got the same Troy rails for our rifles on swat. I had three out of four shatter on my own rifle, a Colt R0933. The all crumbled to pieces at the delta ring attachment area. Numerous others broke, somewhere in the neighborhood of 15-20. Avoid the Troy rails like the plague.
They are not half the rails the KAC have been. They will not hold up to hard use. I didn't mount optics or any lasers to the rail. Only VFG's, AFG's and lights. I ran between 10-20k a year through the gun. There was no out of the ordinary abuse other than patrol use, swat or instruction performed with that rifle. We talked to Troy at shot 2013 and they looked at me like I had a dick growing out of my forehead. Their solution was send it in and we'll replace it no charge. They'd replaced the others at no charge but never fixed the shortcomings of the rail.
I could care less if the manufacturer gives me a free replacement for life if I have to replace it 2-3 times a year.
There was no abuse to the rails that should have caused that type of failure.
I finally bagged the fourth rail and just put Magpul MOE handguards on the rifle.
The Troy's are a POS and I wouldn't buy the Colt with them on the SOCOM package. Colt is getting to be pretty shady pulling that kind of stunt.

Your lowest form of training will be your highest performance in combat!
I couldn't tell what type of rail was on the example that I saw in Wallyworld (and am thinking of buying). The rail markings didn't look as brightly applied as the one in the photo above.
I like Colt, but the decisions that they make confuse the hell out of me sometimes. I understand the increasing costs of business and such, but one of the main features of this rifle was that it came with the same rail and similar barrel as the military's M4A1 carbine. Now you are left with a carbine that doesn't have the same rail or the right barrel, yet still has a price that's similar to a decently featured BCM or Daniel Defense carbine.
Hopefully they don't do anything to mess up the new A4 rifle before its released.

At that price, the only worth while thing on that rifle is the lower/ roll mark. And that only goes so far...
So, as a bit of a novice in this area, what I'm taking from this is that it would be prudent to pass on the Troy-railed version. I'll have to check on the ones at Wallyworld to see what type they are.
