Not so much that, really. If Troy rails are as potentially bad as as been posted here then I wouldn't want to spend the money on a crappy product.

You could always buy it and the sell the Troy rails off and buy the JAC RAS rail blem for 150 or less.
As long as the test of the rifle is the same ambi safety, same barrel, etc then it would be ok
I'm sorry, but what else were you guys doing with them? Did the armorer have problems installing the rail and modified them with a dremel?
Politics aside... BCM, S&W, and a host of SMEs use Troy rails, and I seriously doubt they would be if there were problems with them.
Wow, I'm legit shocked they switched to Troy. Sort of like how they ditched their carry handles on the 6920 and replaced them with the MBUS. A lot of cost cutting going on for a business that's coming off of one of it's best selling years ever (on the civilian side).
P.S. The BCM Jack analogy was spot on.

Well, went over to Wallyworld this morning and handled the SOCOM in question. Couldn't find any manufacturer's markings on the rails anywhere, and the counter guy didn't have a clue (of course). Did seem like a solid weapon, though.
If you like it, buy it. If it comes with the KAC rail, then great. If it doesn't, you can sell the Troy and buy a KAC "blem" as someone suggested earlier. If you don't care about it being "just like the real thing" then you could put a DD lite rail on it in your choice of length. Or just use the Troy and not worry about it.
If it's still there next week, yeah, I'll probably go for it. My secondary choice was the Magpul edition which is about $300 cheaper.
I wouldn't be too concerned over the rail change, but thinking your getting one rail and finding out it is another is kinda slick. I have owned my socom for almost a year and a half, have close to 11K rounds through it and would buy another in a heartbeat. It's a very nice rifle and if you purchase one you will enjoy owning and putting it through the paces!

I would choose the magpul version over either of those. If you really want rails you can get something like a centurion c4 carbine cutout for that $300 difference which will arguably be a better rail than what comes on either of those two.
