Wow. Very nice. And with only a 4x optic, by the looks of it. That is pretty cool.
OP didnt do the shooting
I did it.
and I used the standard Colt carry handle. though I did make most of the needed elevation adjustment with the front sight with 3-4 full turns, then fined tuned the rest on the rear elevation. I did not use any optics for the 1000 yard shots with the 14.5 inch SOCOM. The gun did have the KAC RAS on it though.
I used more then M855 and M193, I shot with MK 262. The article has all the details and pictures of the groups shot
I also shot at 800 yards using a T-1 and a 16 inch gov profile barrel on a Colt 6940
thanks for the compliments fellows.
I also did the same test with a stock Colt M16A2 upper on a stock Colt lower using M855, iron sights and nothing but a Sling while laying prone for support if you care to read about it. I also played around with MK 262 in the A2 rifle as well

that makes a lot more sense. i was going to say, i've shot irons/ARs at 1000 with 223, and none of my iron sites, including NM had the elevation to get to 1k with a 100 or 200 yard zero.
using a relatively hot load, you'd need 44 MOA for the 77g SMK by my calc, and almost certainly more for a short barrel. The rear sights on my 6920s only have 35 1-MOA clicks. The m193 would need a lot more.
since the front sights aren't marked and require tools to adjust (even if the tool is a bullet) i'd hesitate to characterize this as practical
that's still great shooting though!
it's not particularly easy with a scoped bolt gun, especially if the wind comes up.
That's awesome! At my stage in life, I would do well to even see the target at 1,000 yards.
