Post of the month fer sher!

Hard to find 1000 yards around here. With recent improvements to my backstop AND if I can get permission to shoot from a platform I would build on the irrigation center-pivot in the neighbor's field, I could do it....

Last time I shot at 1000Y was at Camp Grayling with a 6-pounder and the target was a 4X8 sheet of plywood. We never hit it. That was six years ago and I wonder.... has the smoke cleared yet?

Fun and informative stuff. I too have been a member of the "Can't get good groups with M855" club but thinking back most of it was really Spanish SS109. I have some LC M855LF that will go along on my next take-you-time bags/rest/bench trip.

    shawnmt6601, great shooting!

The club I belong to only has a 200 yard range. Honestly, any longer then that with iron sights and I have a hard time anyways. My eyes aren't that good anymore.

    Good job, NYH1.

That is downright impressive. It's nice to know that a good carbine is capable of hits out to that range.

Glad I went Afghan instead of Recce or SPR.

Everyone keeps telling how bad the m855 round is but you proved that completely wrong. I have a lot of 193 and 855 and never really know what round to buy. So I guess the 855 round is pretty darn good huh?

    Thanks again!

well. I would not want to give the impression that M855 is safe to take to Perry and beat David tubb with. But it is a lot better then some say IF, its a good lot

people think it wont shoot far, but remember. the SS109 was designed to shoot at longer ranges in a SAW/M249 etc. Why people think the barrel length or operation of the SAW some how gives longer range to the M855 then a M4/AR15 will I have no idea. Guys have forgotten its original purpose.

Decent lake City M855 is all I used. and the quality in M855 clones varies. when using match 77 grain ammo. there is a huge improvement

I also make no claims on terminal effect of the M855 at that range. I am a firm believer that a solid hit is a hit and will have an effect. but just case the round will hit at 1,000 is no reason to make it your standard self defense round if you can get better. But, even a hit in the chest with a M855 at 1000 is still better then a miss with a MK 262 round.

As I said before. you guys need better confidence in your selves and what you can do with your rifle. That was my goal. to show what can be done and get people more confident in their weapon and therefore themselves

If you guys feel like humoring me. here is a link to me shooting the 901 to 1,200 yards. If that interests you.

awesome! I love pushing guns out to ranges that most do not just to see what is possible. Not to your extremes but nonetheless this stuff is awesome. Hope you keep it up

This is definitely a refreshing post. Even though there are many differences (sights, ballistics, etc) I would to see the same type of challenge done with an AK and SKS.
