oh comparison with the 80s seated out to single load is THE load. this is well established. you guys dont need me to confirm this. if you want to shoot your AR15 at 1000 the quick and easy way, using the 80s is a must unless you want a lot of PITA
My first 1000 yard shooting with the A2 was using single fed 80s. accuracy is greatly improved and they out do the 77 grains seated to magazine length
I used 24.0 grains of re 15 with the sierra 80s to make my first 1000 yard hits. then later switched to varget. I have a slightly hotter load I will not publish that gave a little more edge
I found the hornady 75 A-max to be too hard to get accurate. too finicky with seating depth when using a milspec barrel
I find the 90 grain are too long to allow enough powder in the case to make them have any real tangible performance over the 80s. In a 22.250 case sure, but the 223 case just doesnt have the capacity to get the 90s cooking, in my experience
I doubt I can pull of the chrono graph at 1000 yards since there would be a large chance of something causing me to drop a round on top of it. I will see if I cant try it at 800 yards though.
my 100 yard accuracy with the MK 262 is for the most part is all I could ask. I have some test targets I will try to dig up and post. I usually stick to my handloads that use the 77 gr bullet for long range shooting when I am not trying to see what "issue rifles/carbines and mk 262 " will do.
will be shooting more this weekend. will post up links when i get the info together.
since there is so much interest in the 80 grain seirra. I will shoot some of those this weekend to get a few groups for those who have not used them before. and may post my reloading data along with the results
I will shoot them on a 200 yard NRA bullseye target with a 24 inch SS match barrel AR. Im going to skip the iron sights so I can really try to get them best group possible to showcase the bullet. if you want to know what the 80s will do, I dont think me shooting iron sights and the strain it takes to do it , will show the quality of the bullet haha. if the wind is too bad I will use a different target, But hopefully I can get on with the bulls eye easy enough to maybe show some kind of "score"
the 80s really are the best choice for 1K in the AR though if using the 556.
How can one get the 38-40moa elevation adjust required, to reach to 1000y, out of the 3/6 iron sights on a m4?
