Charlotte Police Officer Arrested in Shooting Death

    http://www.charlotteobserver.com/201...-shooting.html

This is a very disturbing local situation that will garner national headlines once the media loses interest in the DC tragedy. It seems that a white CMPD officer shot an unarmed black man 10 times after responding to a woman's house for a disturbance.

Initial reports are that the deceased was involved in a nearby car accident in the middle of the night and went to the woman's house to summon help. He banged on her door and she answered thinking that it was her husband who works the late shift. She slammed the door on him when she realized her mistake and called police.

Responding officers found the man on her property. Apparently, he did not obey their commands and ran toward the officers. One officer deployed a Tazer with inadequate results, and another officer then discharged his service weapon (M&P40) 12 times. The deceased was struck 10 times and died as the scene.

The local controversy has multiple aspects. First, there is the obvious racial features. However, a more interesting part is the speed in which CMPD filed voluntary manslaughter charges against one of their own. The shooting happend 2 days ago and the officer has already been charged. From what I can tell, there was no lengthily inquiry and there certainly has not been enough time to generate the Medical Examiner's final report. It appears that the police brass made some calls to the DA and the ball is rolling very fast.

Needless to say, the usual race hustlers are starting to infiltrate. The local black community is already up in arms since he was released on bail. I betting we are going to be ground zero once the DC drama settles,,,

    Red face

    From the article;

Meanwhile, the NAACP plans a news conference early Monday afternoon...
GUARANTEED that WON'T bring any clarity to the issue, and once 'DA REV'ERHUNDS begin marching, the issue will go downhill quickly.

Bad situation? Absolutely. To go from a car wreck, to looking for help, to getting shot to death over it, is unfathomable, and sad beyond words. Unfortunately, race hustlers are NEVER short on "words," but ALWAYS short on clarity...

The fact two other officers were on the call and the speed at which the charges were filed is a huge clue. Another big clue is the shots fired to hit ratio. The shooter must have been really close to score that many hits.

Reported dash cam video apparently shows the guy was clearly unarmed and even hiked up his pants to prove the point. I'm thinking it was that and some other details that made for a bad shoot.

Ferrell apparently climbed out of the back window of his mangled car, police said. It was unclear whether he was injured, but he walked to a house just visible over the crest of a hill, about a quarter-mile away.

He started “banging on the door viciously,” according to Monroe.

The woman who lives there at first thought the man knocking on the door was her husband, coming home late from work. But police said when she saw Ferrell, she thought he was a robber. She dialed 911, asking for officers to come to her home in the 7500 block of Reedy Creek Road.

About 2:30 a.m., three Hickory Grove division officers responded to the call – Kerrick, 27, who’s been an officer since April 2011; Thornell Little, who joined the department in April 1998; and Adam Neal, who’s been an officer since May 2008.

They encountered Ferrell a short distance from the home, police said.

As the officers got out of their car, “Mr. Ferrell immediately ran toward the officers,” according to a police statement. It said Ferrell moved toward Kerrick.

Little fired his Taser, but police said it was unsuccessful.

Police said Kerrick fired “several” rounds, striking Ferrell “multiple times.” He died at the scene.

It appears from the accounts, that he was shot simply because he was approaching LE faster then they liked, while much more needs to be known such as why the taser was even deployed, and why it failed(missed his mark?), the rapidity of the charges being levied, would lead one to conclude that it was just as stupidly unjustified an action as it appears from the above account...

The victim was running; not simply approaching the officer faster than he liked.
