My first and only build was for hunting. I think you are lining up things pretty well.

If you are used to a serious bolt action hunting rifle, there is no way you will be satisfied with the standard design trigger of an AR-15. I tried the JP spring as a cheap possibility for enhancement. I tried polishing the gritty DD hammer and trigger. But all that was time wasted. I finally got the Geissele SSA-E trigger (it's a 2-stage) and I now consider it the best feature of the rifle. The cost hurt, but I can't imagine anything that would make me switch to something else.

My other splurge was on the Spikes Tactical Nickel Boron carrier group. It's slick - things move into place easily. It's easy to clean. The price has gone up with the insane demand of recent times, though. Check product reviews to see if you can find something with the same features for less.

I, too, bought the wedge as a just-in-case thing, but all the pieces came together tight enough without it.

OP, buy a Colt or BCM (or Noveske, KAC, DD) and call it a day. Then I think you need to sit and read this forum for a good year before attempting a build of your own. There are many here (including myself) who have taken this tact and been very happy about it.

There are too many "this sounds cool" parts on your gun and not enough "this serves the purpose of the weapon" parts.
“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”

That is part of the first build thingie. Many years ago I was building the ultimate road bike and I bought all the cool stuff. The next road bike was a store bought high quality name brand bike that I still have and serves me well. I just like to buy a quality off the shelf quality brand "Colt BCM or Daniel defense" with a warranty. But then you don't get to learn which never seems to be worth the cost but is really is.
