Thinking about picking up a .308

My local gun store is giving 10% off "hunting" rifles for the weekend and they have a Core 30 .308 that I was interested in picking up (http://www.core15rifles.com/core30-tac-rifle.html). I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with these Core 30 rifles and if that was a decent price point for a .308? I've bought and used AR15s but never the .308 caliber so im very inexperienced when it comes to the market/quality/price, etc for the .308. This will mainly be a target gun which I would might use for a few hunting trips. Weight is a concern for me but not a huge one, and the price is about as high as I'd be willing to go (less is always better though).

    Thanks

Someone asked a similar question back in June: http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?p=1685735

Considering at that price you're just a few hundred dollars short of an LMT MWS, and $1000 more than a S&W M&P10, it's hard to choose the Core 30.

Thanks but the LMT is a bit out of my price range (3000 vs 2400). I'll take a look at the M&P 10 though, thanks.

I've been looking at these as well and finally got time to go and check one out. It was the TAC model. Comes with some nice upgraded parts. Guy at the gun store offered it to me for $2k. It was a tempting offer, but I didn't pull the trigger because I would prefer the 18" LR TAC.

I like the M&P-10. Still working on finding a good combination of buffer & spring to soften recoil

I picked up an LMT with 16" CL Barrel for $2600 on gunbroker. I watched all of the usual places, wanting to get it for $2500, but finally found one on gunbroker and wasn't going to let $100 stop me. At your price point, I think you really need to look at the quality of the rifle in question. I have no knowledge of the core 30. Mistwolf definitely has the M&P10 covered, and he almost swayed my decision.

I just got the MP10 with the 5R barrel, I didn't take and photos this last weekend when I went out for my first shot. but it was Sub MOA. I have a Samson 13.5 on it now with just Irons. I have a 4in' extension on order that will bring the rail to 17.5 stopping right before the Flash. I found DPMS mags work well in it and I am running 168 Fed match. I will post pictures after this weekend shoot.

Very nice IMHO, but quite pricey...You may be better of with a LR-308
that you can dress-up very nicely with a light crisp trigger, FF rail, and some nice optics, etc. and still save plenty of dollars for some ammo and 308 Pmags...Good Luck.
