Interesting situation going on. Apparently the military is still in firefights with the terrorists inside the mall. So far they have at least 39 dead and over 150 wounded.

They've been having problems with them for years now. A couple years ago there was a huge riot in one town in western China. Supressed with force and alot of follow on executions, but it wasn't pretty. We don't hear much about in our media.

This is one of the only malls in Nairobi as I recall and it is fairly close the diplomatic areas.

It was pretty nice as things go. If you travel to Mombasa things change quite a bit and there is a large presence of Somalis there. Most of them are in the piracy (and probably terrorist) business and they go to Mombasa and spread the wealth by building large villas and nice cars.

I think they are taking a page from the Beslan school hostage event by Islamic separatist Chechens. Take hostages, wait till forces amass, kill as many as possible with no plans to be taken alive. End well this will not. Do the Kenyans tend to have connections to top tier units from Brits, French, Germans, or US to bring in to "advise"?

Update, CBS reporting Israel is advising the Kenyans. Not sure why it's Israelis (if correct) but I hope they can move fast and hard and their aim true.
