    Best EAR Buds for running

    Hi
My wife birthday is fast approaching and her goal is to run this years Honolulu Marathon, 26 miles. I'm taking suggestions on what type, make and model and the best for runners as a gift for her. If your a runner what works best for you?
    Thanks

I run with some cheapy skull candy ear buds and they work great. I run about 20-25 miles per week and the set I'm using is about 4 months old.

I hate all ear buds except for the Apple ones (new style). Ear buds that seal against your hear suck. If the seal breaks they loose bass response, and you can't hear crap with them in. Its like wearing foam ear plugs all the time.

I like headphones of an over the ear style with a neckband.

These are the best ones I've found.

The plug always shorts out after a while, and I'm on my 4th set. Probably about every 4-6 months they need to be replaced, running from 20-50 miles per week. This time I tried placing a bit of heat shrink over the plug to reinforce it a bit. The cord is very long, which is nice because it comes out of the left side, down my back and around my body to my iphone in my left hand. I am never aware of the cord.

The only place you can really get them is Amazon and E-Bay.

If looking at Bluetooth, the ones I'm going to try are similar to the ones above.

I had a set of the Jay Birds Blue BudsX's, and they blew. The wireless thing was nice, but sound was only good if they didn't shift, and they always shifted when running and working out. Sitting at my computer they were great.

I had a set of the Bose workout headphones as well. The cord was a bit too short for me, but I'm 6'-3". This probably won't be an issue for her. You really don't notice they are in, and the sound is amazing. There is no sealing of the ear canal, so your hearing with them in is unaffected. As a bonus, they come with an arm iphone holder, which on a 26.2 mile run I'd want.

Preference with headphones is very subjective. IMO you'd be MUCH better off to get her a gift certificate for, or take her for a shopping day to buy a good pair of running shoes. What may be ok for a 2 mile run will completely suck for 26.2. I have shirts I can't wear on really long runs because the seems cause chaffing. Kind of the same thing with headphones. Little annoyances become huge problems.

That type doesn't stay in my ears when I start sweating.

I've tried many "sports" buds and these are the best solution I've found for running-

They hold up to sweat, trail running, rain, etc. all the sports buds I've had eventually work their way out, maybe I just make weird faces when I work out though.

I use H20 Audio (now X-1) for running. I've had the same set for almost 2 years. I run approximately 30-35 miles a week and sweat quite a bit.

These are the way to go. Great quality and a two year Sennheiser warranty. I had a pair that I used 4-5 days a week for running and after about 18 months I ended up with a short in the line. I sent them back to Sennheiser and they sent me a brand new pair out the same day. I am still using the new pair and they have been great.

They are the Surge buds. They're only $50 and it looks like Amazon has some of the H2O's for $37. I imagine they're on clearance b/c of the name change.

I wear my Shuffle on my shorts waist band and run the wire under my shirt. I have not had any problems with them popping out of my ears. Before buying them, I ruined a $150 pair of head phones. It's been a couple year and I don't remember the name....but I was pissed. IIRC, these have a 1 year warranty. I'm close to a year past that warranty

I'm thinking about buying another pair just to have them for the future.
