    Yes.
The Stevens 320, a pump action shotgun based on the Winchester 1300, is made in China and imported under the Stevens label.
Sold one. Seemed well made and far cheaper than a Remington 870.
No doubt they can manufacture a quality made AR of good materials, if they want to. I suspect that the requirements for the firearms their soldiers currently field are no different than ours, or Israel's. They don't want a critical failure any more than we do.
However for export, as many have said, unless closely supervised and inspected, they will probably be the cheapest product the market will tolerate.

The cost of buying made in china parts is the burden of high unemployment in this country. Pay less now, yet the cost is higher in the long run.

Not just China, exportation of industry to China is just a symptom of the disease. Corporations and short term profits dont care about geographical location. If it becomes profitable enough to manufacture AR's in China... there will be a way to assemble them more cheaply in Indonesia or Vietnam, India... etc, Rinse, repeat as needed to maintain profit margin.

I avoid buying things from China not only because they mass-produce low quality crap, but also because I don't appreciate Communism. Threads like this make me miss the Cold War.

I agree with this 100%. It is purely a coincidence that the place where we have a lot of our manufacturing done also happens to be a "Communist" (not really though) state. I think we could safely speculate that 20 years from now most manufacturing will be done somewhere else. India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Brazil, who knows?

Consumerism is a disease and manufacturing in places to maximize the end profit is one of the worst symptoms. However we can't just blame the companies and manufacturers, it is OUR fault also. If more people would ignore the cheap crap coming in from those companies and buy better quality stuff, or even buy only American made stuff, the market would shift in favor of those types of items as the demand would be higher for them.

As it is now, with consumerism, everyone just wants to have more and more stuff, regardless of how cheap it is. So there is a huge demand for cheaply made garbage from China. Also, you think the "made in China" stuff is crap here, you should see what it looks like IN China haha

    a few thoughts

#1 China has serious demographics issues that make the raping of our social services and debt structure the baby boomers are going to drop on the USA look like a joke. They have to keep people employed on export driven jobs to prevent serious social repercussions. I remember Chinese president Xi saying he needs 7-9% growth just to keep china treading water. China could replace the United States as the predominate world power if we keep electing democrats or they could implode. A good look at demographics, geography, topography, population dispersion, and disease/ famine patterns in China will tell you one thing. China is to be respected but it could all fall apart, there is a reason they FEAR our navy.

2.The democratic (communist) power brokers in washington wouldn't let american made garands from south korea that are 60 years old into the country. They want to pass ghost gun laws over 3D printed guns. You think for one second they are going to let anyone (even if it is their communist benefactors) bring more AR's into the country? Nope

considering that some of the left in this country is facing are hostile populace in relation their polices. They know they are over the limits on what they are doing with our rights. They know a lot of people in this country are asking "at what point do we take hostile action on the whole domestic enemy to the constitution thing?"

then let a flood of cheap AR's into the country...nope they don't want to be drug through the street like Q'daffi... so they know less guns the better

#3 The Chinese could very well make a solid and well performing AR clone, but we shouldn't buy it. I think that firearms ownership and firearms production in the USA is one of. if not the lynchpin of personal freedom in the world. I think that in the next few years that the small high quality production capability of the firearms industry will be a basis for production of other items when the global economies start to balance out. Plug in cheap 3D printers and metal 3D printers, we are looking at a resurgence of the american production base in small goods. Gun owners want good parts first, you make a small part that keeps HK owners happy, you can keep any customer happy.

It will be the garage gunsmith and small gun producer, who leads that charge in many ways IMO

I agree with most of your post. But one thing we as Americans do that is most self destructive to us as Americans is believing that Republicans are any better than Democrats. They are YIN and YANG. Cold and Heat, Hammer and nail.
They feed out of the same trough. One set taxes and overspends the other over-borrows and overspends. They are both pimps to the highest bidder. Thats why I think that if China wanted to, they could buy off enough politicians to get around weapon importation laws.

Exactly, its a disease. " A citizen that has been turned into a consumer has a great empty hole through the middle of him. He can never earn enough, or win enough, or buy enough to ever fill it". I think Wyatt Earp said something like that.

It will be a snowy day on South Padre Island before i ever buy a Chinese AR.

Norinco already makes a Chinese AR and they sell it in Canada. They have been doing this for years.
