In a way you are all right,Greedy companys,,, Being sold out, etc, but they "took our jobs" was just a south park thing..lol
The only thing i like thats made in china was a $4 knife that was bought at a feed store,on a whim and 15 years later its still in my pocket...But when i bent one of their wrenches with nothing but arm power i gave up on most of their stuff..
Now i try and only buy made in the USA..IF i can...I fix things,, I dont like throw away items unless its a one use thing..But most people just throw things out and buy another..And most of the time the USA item will be a lot more costly, BUT, you can get parts for repair later. The problem come when you can buy a chinese toaster brand new for what the parts cost to fix the USA toaster. This i dont understand..It makes people say well i will just buy a new product. So nobody fixes things any more..

Also, Then you get things like the $4 knife that i would and do carry it out in the woods..AND trust it..Enough said..

Then you get a usa made bear and son knife {i own} thats like a $40 pocket knife and the fit and finish is just BAD..And to return it to get it fixed , to just look right, you have to pay the shipping both ways on a brand new knife..It should have never left the factory.I know crap happens and you cant watch them all leave the factory but these are supposed to be hand made so that means somebody built it like that and then threw it in the bin to go out..not acceptable..

One knife is 10 times more than the other, and the cheap one looks fine and has lasted 15 years, and i use a knife all the time ive carried one for about 42 years. I hate to say it but i have my doubts the $40 USA knife will last 15 years..We all know why they can make things cheaper,, how about we just make sure ours are ALWAYS better..Then its easy to pay the extra money becouse " its worth it." But if its built worse than the cheap one,, nobody can justify that..

All that is stopping Chinese quality AR's from flooding the market is lobbying to get certain laws and regulations dismissed. May be that the AR market is too volatile and dependent on political strife for the chinese to wave enough money around to change legislation.

If the Chinese can open up state run banks in the U.S and get direct access to the the U.S treasury to buy bonds , both unprecedented acts . Why would something as piddling as the AR/weapons industry be immune to them?
Is this the same place that had to put safety nets due to the huge number of people who committed suicide by jumping from the roof of the building they work at?

I'm just saying. Clearly Apple getting Foxconn to make its products to exacting standards is a shining beacon of how China can be....Oh wait.

Hey, even a third world craphole like the Philippines can make a qualtiy M16 to TDP specs over 30 years ago. Google "Elisco Tool Company".

As long as QC/QA is strictly controlled, a monkey (a real one) can make a quality AR. Quality FAL's have been made in Brazil. Quality HK's have been made in Turkey. MKE (Turkey) even makes, by appearances, a quality 416.

    To heck with you all.....

I've got money in my pocket wanting for AR's with rollmarkings from the following countries, as long as it's SUPER cheap:

    - Russia

    - India

    - Mexico (Where a lot of Mossberg parts are made, ....cars too.)

    - North Korea

    - Any country in Africa

I shouldn't keed, cause it'll probably happen, eventually.

I can see in my safe, an AR with the rollmark:

    M419
    CAL. 5.56MM
    Made in Nigeria

(Hint: Google "419" if you don't get the joke.)

As each nation updates their industrial prowess, their standard of living will rise in concert, and the retail cost of products made there will increase accordingly. Then the "powers that be" will move on to some other slave labor country to make stuff CHEAP. Then China will join Americans in whining about how those people took their jobs. It is cyclical human nature.

In today's global economy, the key is invention, innovation, new ideas, NOT manufacturing. But we, Americans have lost that edge too as education (from 1st grade to college) is continually being dumbed down, due to liberal agendas. China will follow us down as they won't be able to copy our inventions, as we won't have any.

I have no doubt that the Chinese can make quality stuff, anything really as long as they're paid to do it. Same as anybody else. Apple pays them for a certain level of quality, personally I don't know what that is, I don't own any Apple products. My first choice is always American if it can be found at a price and quality level I can afford. I've owned American cars, I prefer Honda or Toyota. For firearms I prefer to buy quality first. If I can't afford it then I wait. I came to this forum to find out what comprised a quality AR15. I found it and I am still here because of the quality of the members and information found here.

Not to derail the thread, but the above is total BS... EVERYONE buy Treasuries direct from the Treasury. You just have to have the ability to bid. US Treasury Single Price Auctions Everything is auctioned. YOU (theoretically) can buy bonds direct from the treasury. I just have a feeling that nobody in their right mind would want to, the yields right now are terrible. The Chinese are not the largest holders of American debt, Americans are by a huge margin. Then you have China, Japan, Brazil, Taiwan, et al...

I can agree that one of the things I love the most about this sport/hobby is that I can buy entirely American made products, and as such, a Chinese AR really doesn't bother me because I won't spend my money on it. Plenty of Bubbas will pick one up if the cost is low enough. They currently buy commercial spec brands that I am not spending my money on anyway.

This is what will have to happen if China wants to make a quality AR15 that is truly "milspec". It will be just as pricey, or it will cost just the same as a S&W or Spikes in the $600-700 range.

Why would one get a chinese AR when you can get them locally here??

Are you ok with sending your AR back to china for warranty work if it breaks down? I'm sure as hell not ok with that.

(Reuters) - China can now bypass Wall Street when buying U.S. government debt and go straight to the U.S. Treasury, in what is the Treasury's first-ever direct relationship with a foreign government, according to documents viewed by Reuters.

The relationship means the People's Bank of China buys U.S. debt using a different method than any other central bank in the world.

The other central banks, including the Bank of Japan, which has a large appetite for Treasuries, place orders for U.S. debt with major Wall Street banks designated by the government as primary dealers. Those dealers then bid on their behalf at Treasury auctions.

China, which holds $1.17 trillion in U.S. Treasuries, still buys some Treasuries through primary dealers, but since June 2011, that route hasn't been necessary.
Little research goes a long way, now unless things have changed in the past year and a half it is still that way. You and I can buy direct from the government... but we aren't foreign central banks are we...

But back to the thread , yep China can makem cheaper than us if the profit motive is there, they just cant make it as cheaply as they used to. But I can see Chinese manufactured parts being assembled in Vietnam or Honduras being very cheap. All they have to do wave enough money around and our politicians will drop our collective pants and let them have thier way.
