I don't know how this will work out for small shops or individuals buying forged parts, but I know I've been consistently disappointed, and chinese parts we buy have the highest reject rates of any point of origin.
In a lot(maybe most?) of instances, once the Chinese quality level is in the same ball park as a US/Euro made item the price is also equivalent.

That reminds me of the manual that came with my Chinese SKS in 1992.

Just like how the BATFE/Obama wouldn't allow American-made assault rifles to end up in the hands of Mexican drug cartels...

    Oh wait......

I've been happy enough with the Chinese add-ons I've bought (sling mounts, grips, iron sights, etc.), but there's no way I'm going to trust them for core components.

    Definitely!

I've got 20+ years of watching different ways things can go bad if companies don't actually have some personal "presence" there.

My thought would be they make everything 80% or otherwise partially finished to comply with import regs. Final finishing and assembly will be done here. Still at a vastly reduced cost. I am sort of surprised it took this long for this to happen. Look for Leapers/UTG/Hawk Industries ARs appearing at your local WalMart real soon. You can get a DTI for around $700. I wonder if the Chinese can produce a WalMart grade AR for a retail price of $500?

I have mixed feeling about this. It does allow more people to get into the AR game. On the other hand, it does allow more people to get into the AR game.

I agree. Just think about what a glut of $500 Walmart ARs would do to the price and/or availability of ammo.
