Not trying to start a shit storm but we are responsible for loosing jobs to China. Thank the unions. We live in a global economy. China can produce anything we want to whatever spec we want. Greedy retailers are the problem. I doubt you can buy any AR part from any manufacturer that doesn't send some $$$ to China. GH
Question...
Given that so many AR components are, in effect if not in actuality, commodity parts...how do you/we know what comes from where?
Every manufacturer/assembler builds to a spec, whether it is theirs or some other, and one of those specs is almost always a retail price-point.
I'm fairly confident that some of the more innocuous components used in AR manufacturing...especially the various and sundry pins of all types (roll, straight, taper, etc...)...are readily available from any number of maybe surprising sources, few of which would be less expensive than China.
If a manufacturer/assembler has a retail price-point in mind, saving a few pennies on the non-critical pieces leaves money for the critical stuff (if the manufacturer/assembler cares about quality) so why not source from the least expensive supplier that can meet spec for the component (Chinese or not)?
...and more importantly, how will you/we know when the critical parts are off-shored?

Defensive use a firearm is rarely a marksmanship problem, but it is ALWAYS a mindset problem.
I won't buy anything AR related that is Chinese made. I can accept raw forgings for uppers and lowers to add to the inventory made in America but I will not knowingly buy a finished Chinese AR product. kwg
That is a very interesting comment IG. Do you know if ITAR is as heavily restrictive with importing as they are with exporting?
I know you have Norinco which for the most part (think shotguns and ammo) is a done deal coming into the us due to alledge attempts to sell heavy grade ordnance like rocket launchers and stuff to street gangs in the US. I thought the US hard more or less heavy restrictions on Chinese guns coming into the US especially due to issues like this.
From TOS ... "buy the shit out of that thing, all the mil spec is just nonsense."

As the end consumer, we wont always know who really made all the parts in an AR15. That is why it is very important to stick with well-known American-made companies like Colt, BCM, DD, etc. I'm sure some people here (those in the industry) know, but will not necessarily disclose this info. Not a big deal to me...
I agree with the first part. Not so much the second part. We GAVE them our jobs and happily at that.
If nobody voluntarily bought Chinese-made stuff, they wouldn't manufacture it. No demand = no supply.
Also, the Chinese are able to make cheap stuff because other than using cheaper materials and little gov't regulations, they pay their workers crap and little if any benefits. Their standard of living is WAAAY lower than ours, which no American worker, union or otherwise, would EVER want to live in.
Do not misplace your ill will towards the Chinese when it is our politicians and ourselves to blame. We, Americans have become entitled to our high standard of living as evidenced by our "service economy."

This statements are kinda parodoxial. not saying you are incorrect, but in reality there is always more to it.
We did not voluntarily give them our jobs. Not every US company can survive if even if we all bought US-made products. Manufacturing and labor costs/laws in the US are just not the same as in China. They don't care if they get paid way less than min wage as long as they have a job, which is why their products are very cheap and usually inferior quality.
But the sad fact that the US economy is in the dump and we don't want to spend a lot of money for quality US-made products, so we buy/import products from China.
Even Iphones are made in China..which is saying something. If those products were made here, they would cost the consumer a whole lot more....
Just my 2c.
