But according to BM and others this never happens. It's just internet rumor.

It is and your just a hater. Every Bushmaster is 100% mil-spec (but who really cares about mil-spec) and goes at least 100 rounds without a malfunction. Bushmaster is the best company to ever make anything and your just paying for the name with Colt. Bushmaster makes the rifles for the U.S. military and all the other militaries. Did I mention your a hater?

Did I miss one? I'm just kidding by the way. I'm no BM fanboy unless there's a C in the middle.

Does this seem to be a problem that people have seen? Specifically not turning the extension down one more turn? I've seen or fixed three in about the past six months with the same problem.

Is it just careless gunsmithing or do people generally just not know?

Bushmaster has been known for not properly torquing receiver extensions and then failing to stake them.

When you make mention of it, they live in Da Nile and say that it never happens except on the net.

    Meh, you're just a hater

The three I saw were two custom builds that didn't get the extra turn and a Colt that a Bubba Basement Armorer that worked for OKC PD replaced the receiver plate and didn't give it the one more turn. And minus the torque and staking since the castle but came off with almost zero pressure on the stock wrench.

I was chalking it up to anyone throwing random parts together after December and selling at a premium. But was wondering if you might have seen more like that in your armorers class.

Yes I have seen quite a few actually. Even worse are the bolt carrier key stakings or lack thereof.

dalefan88, it wouldn't hurt to check this out while you're at it. Read down to the section about the rifles used.

    http://www.luckygunner.com/labs/bras...el-cased-ammo/

Out of four rifles two had barrel nuts that had been torqued on to just 5 ft/lbs.

What's the buffer tube made of? Looks like more than just a "turn it one more time" issue as it looks like a chunk is taken out of the tube to me too.

If I remember on a Carbon 15 it is plastic, not to be confused with quality polymers like DNA and Magpul products.
