I thought you were honoring the anti-gun Senator Al Franken with your new build.

OP, without going into too much detail, the bottom line is not all AR parts are created equal. There's a reason why there are three tiers of AR quality: low, mid and high. It all boils down to the grade of materials being used in the manufacturing, quality control or the lack thereof, proven reliability/ durability track record and customer service. There's a wealth of info to be had on this web site alone, simply by doing more research and reading. And I would highly recommend you do a lot more reading and learning before you start building.

Welcome to M4C. 1st off don't take advice personal. As the new guy, when you start searching around, reading and picking up advice, you'll notice a trend toward quality, proven, reliable gear.
A lot of guys on here have put a lot of rounds through many rifles and share that knowledge.
It's easy to be offended when you put your choices out there and get slammed. That's is why several will tell you to look around here and do some research before you get bent. A lot of threads have played out on here regarding AR quality (brands, parts etc..) There is so much info here don't be surprised if research becomes your new hobby.

By no means am I getting offended. I asked for input from very knowledgeable individuals and so far I have been getting it which I do appreciate. The only experience I have with the M4 is my issues one from the armory. Only a fool would say that his build is top notch and not seek out help from those who know the weapon system.

I would appreciate a little help with finding the threads on here that relate to the parts that I have gotten for my build. Yes I know to do a lot of research but frankly I am not able to sit on the computer all day as we have limited computers with limited time with so many other Marines on this ship. Help and input is appreciated. Guidance towards the right path is also appreciated.

For those of you that are telling me to ditch all my parts, noted. Please point me out to the references in which there is a good basis for that statement. Thank you.

I know that all AR are not created equal (that especially applies to a, frankengun) hence the tiers of rifles that are listed on here that reference that. Is there a similar list to PARTS to a rifle that can be referenced and not the rifle as a whole?

Also, search and read on this site about putting together an AR before making questionable purchases.
Did I mention "search and read on this site about putting together an AR"?
No I don't think you mentioned to search and read this web site about putting together an AR...

Why would you forget the 80% lower?

Do you ever see yourself selling your rifle later? If so you may be hurt on resale badly using the parts mentioned and the 80% receiver. I normally won't even think about buying a firearm with someone's handy work (no discredit to you personally) used to complete it.

If you can get parts cheap enough it may be worth it to use as a hobby gun only, and keep something else (such as your ak) ready for protection.

I agree with most in the topic though. Buy quality parts and you'll not look back.

Good question. No I do not plan on selling it down the road. I figured that a personal build would sell very well if at all.

OP, check out the recent builds in the AR picture thread, lots of them have the build specs typed in with the pics. You will learn all the top notch parts people here are building, the A5 receiver extension, buffer and stock, Vltor uppers, Noveski chainsaw lowers, BCM BCG, top barrels, Geissele triggers and hand guards, muzzle devices that perform, good optics and QD mounts etc. After being exposed to the trick setups people here are building, you will know exactly what you want and have a "custom build" you will be damn happy with. I don't find good parts out of reach price wise compared to cheaper priced parts, you just save a little more and pick theM up as you can. Good luck and enjoy your journey!
